How to use Topamax

If you are also using valproic acid, there is a remote possibility that this medicine could induce a major metabolic issue, which would manifest as an elevated level of ammonia in the blood. Notify your primary care provider as soon as possible if you develop sudden and unexpected fatigue, vomiting, or mental changes (such as decreased alertness).

It is quite unusual for this medicine to cause an extremely severe allergic reaction. These symptoms may indicate anaphylaxis.

Precautions

Inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to topiramate, or if you have any other allergies before beginning treatment with this medication. There is a possibility that this product contains inactive substances, which, if present, could result in allergic responses or other complications. Before beginning treatment with this medication, it is important to discuss your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have or have ever had any of the following conditions: narrow-angle glaucoma, kidney problems (such as kidney stones), liver problems, mental/mood problems (such as depression, suicidal thoughts), lung/breathing problems, a certain metabolic imbalance (metabolic acidosis), long-term diarrhoea, a diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates (ketogenic diet) (osteoporosis).

This medication may cause you to feel drowsy or lightheaded, and it may also affect your judgement. These effects may be made worse by the use of alcohol or marijuana (cannabis). Do not get behind the wheel of a vehicle, operate any machinery, or engage in any activity that requires attentiveness until you are able to do it safely. Steer clear of beverages containing alcohol. If you are a marijuana user, you should consult your primary care physician (cannabis).

This prescription may cause you to sweat less, which increases the risk that you will suffer from heat stroke. Stay away from activities that could cause you to overheat, such as working hard or exercising outside while the temperature is high or utilising hot tubs.
