Spider-Man 4 is officially in development at Sony and Marvel, but we still don’t know when it will hit theatres.
Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios did host an amazing Comic-Con presentation where he disclosed Phase Five release dates as well as a few significant Phase Six releases. However, because it is a Sony release, no new Spider-Man movie will be unveiled there.
Prior to the publication of No Way Home, long-time Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal stated that a new trilogy was in the works. However, during the premiere in December 2021, she retracted her statement, claiming it was really only a wish.
Shortly after, Feige confirmed that a new Spider-Man film is in the works, and in May 2022, Sony CEO Tom Rothman stated that they “want to commence working on the next Spider-Man movie” with “the whole gang,” referring to Tom Holland, Zendaya, and co.
The options for that next film are limitless since No Way Home clears the way for whatever Spidey does next. While this is wonderful for the future, it also implies that this may be the end.
“There was definitely a sense for me, as an actor, that this was perhaps the final time I might conceivably wear the costume, so a lot of that emotion came from the act of saying goodbye,” Holland added.
Let’s hope that’s not the case and that we’ll see Tom Holland reprise his role as Spider-Man in the MCU. With that in mind, here’s all we know about Spider-Man 4 thus far.

Spider-Man 4 Release Date
As previously stated, Spider-Man 4 may be in the works, but no release date has been set. Rumors abound, as they do with anything Marvel or Marvel-related. We shall, however, avoid unfounded murmurs until anything is established.
In the past, there has been a two-year gap between each Spider-Man picture in the MCU, but we suspect there will be a larger break for the next feature, considering 2023 already has two Marvel films scheduled for release (Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse on June 2 and Madame Web on October 6).
The Sony date that sparked the rumors is an unknown Marvel project set for June 7, 2024. This might be Spider-Man 4, however, it would be one month after Captain America: New World Order and one month before Thunderbolts. Even for a cinematic world as expansive as the MCU, this feels like an overabundance of films.
While Sony apparently wanted Jon Watts to return as director, he’s presently on a superhero hiatus after leaving Fantastic Four. But, if the gap between Spider-Man 3 and 4 is as large as we believe, never say never.
All of this is to suggest that, as of this writing, it’s difficult to predict when the fourth installment will be released. If Sony wants Holland to stay in the suit, it could be sooner rather than later. However, if a new guy is to take over the mantle, we may have to wait a little longer.
Spider-Man 4 Cast
Tom Holland has been coy about his future as Peter Parker, preferring to focus on the third film instead.
He was first quoted as saying: “Perhaps it’s time for me to move on. I have to take Peter Parker into consideration as well, since he is a vital part of my life,” and added: “If I’m playing Spider-Man when I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”
He then corrected his statements, saying: “I’m not sure what Spider-future Man’s holds.
“I’m not sure if I’m going to be a part of it. Spider-Man will always be a part of me, and I know [producer] Amy [Pascal] and the studio is eager to see what the next chapter of Spider-Man will look like.
“If it happens to be with me, that’s extremely thrilling, but if it’s time for me to go, I’ll do so honorably.”
There’s always the chance that Holland may take on a mentor position for a new Spider-Man (possibly Miles Morales), but there are no hints for that in No Way Home, so we can only conjecture for now.
We’d expect Zendaya and Jacob Batalon to reprise their roles as MJ and Ned, respectively. However, there are some important disclosures in the new film that may have an influence on that.
Before we begin, here’s your final chance to dodge significant No Way Home spoilers.
To prevent the cosmos from collapsing, Peter hires Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to cast the spell that would make the whole world forget he is Spider-Man, including MJ and Ned.
In a sorrowful farewell to them, he swears to find them and make them remember him. When Ned comes to the cafe where MJ works a few weeks later, Peter goes to tell her the truth.
He’s ready to tell both of them the truth when he notices a plaster on MJ’s skull from the film’s climactic battle and remembers that his pals would be in danger if they found out. He decides not to inform them and exits the restaurant.

That might imply that MJ and Ned will not appear in a future fourth film, however, this is only speculation for the time being. Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) doesn’t know Peter, but he does know Spider-Man, so he may return.
Marisa Tomei will absolutely not be in it, since Aunt May is cruelly slain by the Green Goblin. The idea of an alternate Aunt May (like the other Spider-Men) exists in the universe, but we believe it will not be realised.
It’s also doubtful that Andrew Garfield or Tobey Maguire will reprise their roles, considering that their brief but significant presence in No Way Home is remedied once the storyline reopens the universe.
They do, however, now have official MCU names like “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” (Maguire) and “The Amazing Spider-Man” (Garfield), so who’s to say they couldn’t visit the MCU again?
Garfield would gladly do another team-up film if the script demanded it: “It would have to be something extremely unique, very special and serving to an audience and in service to the character.”
Could Tom Hardy reprise his roles as Eddie Brock and Venom in the fourth film? He appears in the credits scene, but is then sent back to his home reality. (We’ll get to him later.)
Spider-Man 4 Plot
The short answer is no. The conclusion essentially concludes the trilogy and provides a clean slate for the future.
As previously stated, the film concludes with no one knowing that Peter Parker is Spider-Man, including MJ and Ned. Peter, on the other hand, is still going about his Spidey business in the world, so he’s not really retired.
What this implies is that a prospective fourth film may accomplish whatever it wants, whether it’s Peter training a new Spider-Man, a single adventure in which he fights a new enemy, or something altogether else.
“At the end of the film, you witness Spider-Man make a pivotal decision, one you’ve never seen him make before. It’s a price to pay. That offers us a lot of material to work with for the next picture “The New York Times was teased by Pascal.
One possibility is to bring the long-awaited showdown between Spider-Man and Venom to the big screen. Eddie Brock and Venom are transferred to the MCU, as shown in the Venom 2 credits sequence.
We’d be astonished if the MCU created its own Venom, given Tom Hardy’s fandom. So, if the fight is going to happen, we assume they’ll devise a means for Spidey to enter Venom’s realm or vice versa.
No Way Home also makes a lighthearted reference to Ned’s comic book evil role as Hobgoblin. We doubt it will be seen on screen, but weirder things have happened in the MCU.
Spider-Man 4 Trailer
Certainly not! It hasn’t even been formally verified, so you’ll have to settle for No Way Home rewatches for the time being.
