Joker 2, also known as Joker: Folie à Deux, is set to begin filming soon, but you’ll have to wait a long time for the sequel.
The sequel was formally announced in June 2022, after much back-and-forth and disproved rumors, when returning writer-director Todd Phillips said that the script, co-written with Scott Silver, had been completed.
In addition, the screenplay page he released revealed the interesting official title of Joker: Folie à Deux, and fans have been feasting on a slew of exciting character additions, including the real Lady Gaga, since then.
While we wait for the sequel, here’s all you need to know about Joker: Folie à Deux.
Joker 2 Release Date
Warner Bros. has stated that Joker: Folie à Deux would be released in theatres on October 4, 2024, assuming no delays.
Cinematographer Lawrence Sher said in late October 2022 that the sequel would begin production in “five or six weeks,” implying late November or early December. It could even be filming as you read this.

Joker 2 title: What does Joker Folie A Deux mean?
Folie à Deux is the French term for “madness of two” or “shared psychosis,” which refers to a “delusion or mental disease shared by two people in a close relationship” and is widely used to represent this type of mental illness in English as well.
We can deduce from the title that Arthur Fleck’s damaged psyche will be explored again on screen, yet it is also possible that a second protagonist could appear as a real second person with whom Joker reveals his schemes.
If we’re correct, Harley Quinn will be the one to share Arthur’s illusion or mental condition in the sequel.
We have our opinions about how the Joker dabbled – erroneously – in mental-illness stereotypes, and we can only hope that the movie will address them.
Joker 2 Cast
Joaquin Phoenix will, of course, reprise his role as Arthur Fleck, aka the Joker, but we’ll have to wait and see if the sequel will earn him another Oscar.
As previously stated, Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn in the film. She would be the Worlds of DC’s second Harley Quinn after Margot Robbie but keep in mind that Joker exists in a different timeframe than Suicide Squad.
“It’s such an honor to have developed a strong enough foundation that Harley can now be one of those characters that other actors get to try out for, and I think she’ll do something fantastic with it,” Robbie said of the casting.
Industry’s Harry Lawtey will play an important but unconfirmed role, as will Get Out’s Catherine Keener, Maze Runner’s Jacob Lofland, and Banshees of Inisherin actor Brendan Gleeson in unspecified roles.
Zazie Beetz is likely to reprise her role as Sophie, although it’s unclear whether Douglas Hodge and Dante Pereira-Olson will reprise their roles as Alfred Pennyworth and Bruce Wayne, respectively.
Joker 2 Plot
Aside from what we may deduce from the title, no definite story information has been provided as of yet (which we mentioned above). Yet, we do know that the film will be, at least in part, a musical.
The final scene of Joker saw Arthur locked up in Arkham State Hospital, probably arrested after the police dispersed the rioting that raged through Gotham City. The film’s closing shot shows him dancing along the hospital corridor, leaving scarlet tracks in his wake (presumably having killed the doctor examining him).
The other key question for the Joker sequel is who will be Arthur’s enemy. In many respects, the foil for Joker in the first film was himself. The film’s central conflict was his transformation from a roughly normal member of civil society to a full-fledged serial killer.
But how do we proceed from here? What is the next step in Joker’s development? We’ll have to wait a little longer to find out.
Joker 2 Trailer
So yes, all we have is a brief teaser (which merely includes black silhouette illustrations of Gaga and Phoenix set to music) sent to Lady Gaga’s Twitter.
