Conor Anthony McGregor was born in Crumlin, Dublin, to Tony and Margaret McGregor. He is the son of these two people.

He grew up in Crumlin and went to Irish-language schools, including the Gaelscoil Scoil Mológa in Harold’s Cross for primary school and the Gaelcholáiste Coláiste de hde in Tallaght for high school, where he also discovered his love of sport, which he pursued by participating in football there.

He used to play football for the Lourdes Celtic Football Club when he was younger.

At the age of 12, he also began boxing at Crumlin Boxing Club[22][23] as a means of defending himself against bullies and boosting his self-confidence in general.

McGregor and his family relocated to Lucan, Dublin, in 2006, where he began attending Gaelcholáiste Coláiste Cois Life. In the aftermath of that, he began an apprenticeship as a plumber. [24] While in Lucan, he met future UFC fighter Tom Egan, and the two quickly became friends and began training in mixed martial arts (MMA).

Professional mixed martial arts career

On March 9, 2008, McGregor competed in his first professional mixed martial arts fight, defeating Gary Morris via technical knockout in the second round. Having won his second fight against Mo Taylor, McGregor made his featherweight debut in a loss by kneebar to submission specialist Artemij Sitenkov in his first fight at featherweight. In the aftermath of his next fight, a featherweight victory over Stephen Bailey, McGregor considered taking a different professional path until his mother contacted his coach, John Kavanagh, and encouraged him to continue pursuing mixed martial arts.

Later, McGregor defeated Connor Dillon in his following bout, which took place at featherweight. After that, he returned to lightweight for a battle against Joseph Duffy, in which he suffered his second professional loss after submitting to an arm-triangle choke. This was followed by an eight-fight winning streak during which he won the CWFC Featherweight and Lightweight championships, becoming the first European professional mixed martial artist to hold titles in both classes at the same time.

When UFC president Dana White traveled to Dublin, Ireland in February 2013 to accept a Gold Medal of Honorary Patronage from Trinity College, he was overwhelmed with pleas to sign McGregor to a contract with the organization. McGregor turned down the offers.

Following a meeting with McGregor and discussions with UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta, White offered McGregor a contract a few days after the meeting.

On July 19, 2014, UFC Fight Night 46 was scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, and McGregor was slated to face Cole Miller in his return bout following his ACL injury.

Miller, however, was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a thumb injury and was replaced by Diego Brando. [38] McGregor battled Brando in front of a boisterous, noisy crowd of 9,500 people at The O2 in Dublin, Ireland, where he was born and raised. During the first round, at 4:05 of the first round, referee Leon Roberts declared the bout to be over. McGregor received his first “Performance of the Night” award as a result of his victory.

Prior to his next fight, McGregor met with UFC President and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta and agreed to a new multi-fight contract with the organization. McGregor’s next fight was against Dustin Poirier on September 27, 2014, at UFC 178.

Despite the fact that McGregor landed nine meaningful strikes to Poirier’s ten, he was able to earn a victory early in the first round by driving Poirier to his back foot and then bursting with a left hook behind Poirier’s ear, causing referee Herb Dean to intervene. The finish officially came at 1:46 into the first round. This was Poirier’s first UFC defeat by KO/TKO, and McGregor earned his second consecutive “Fight of the Night” award.

On January 18, 2015, McGregor fought Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 in Las Vegas.

In the second round, he scored a technical knockout victory. In addition to the victory, McGregor got his third consecutive “Performance of the Night” award.

The highly awaited fight with Aldo was officially confirmed on January 30, 2015, during the UFC 183 Q&A session. As part of the annual UFC International Fight Week, McGregor stated that he intended to meet Aldo on July 11, 2015, at UFC 189 in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the undisputed UFC Featherweight Championship on July 11, 2015. The battle took place in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, and was broadcast live on ESPN.

It is believed that the UFC boosted the promotional budget for the bout because they were certain that it would exceed expectations. According to company president Dana White, “[the UFC] spent more money advertising Aldo–McGregor than any other fight in UFC history.”

The fight with Aldo was announced on January 30, 2015, during the UFC 183 event in Las Vegas, and both McGregor and Aldo began on a 12-day global tour, during which they visited eight locations in five nations, including Aldo’s home country of Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) and McGregor’s home city of Dublin. The tour kicked off on March 20 in Rio de Janeiro and concluded on March 31 in Dublin, Ireland.

On the 23rd of June, however, it was reported that Aldo had sustained a rib fracture and had been forced to withdraw from the fight as a result. McGregor stayed on the show and was rescheduled to fight Chad Mendes for the Interim Featherweight Championship on the following night.

When it comes to attendance, the event set a new record in Nevada with 16,019 people in attendance. The gate of $7,200,000 broke the previous record for a mixed martial arts event in the United States. Prior to the bout, Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor sang live on stage to accompany McGregor’s entrance song, “The Foggy Dew.” After winning the bout by TKO, McGregor was awarded the UFC Interim Featherweight Championship.

Following that, McGregor competed in the UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter, where he coached against Urijah Faber and won.

Ryan Hall, a member of Faber’s squad, was the overall winner of the competition.

When McGregor returned to the Octagon on January 18, 2020, it was his first fight in almost a year. He faced Donald Cerrone in a welterweight match at UFC 246.

His technical knockout victory came 40 seconds into the first round, according to the fight’s official scorecard.

This victory earned him the prize for “Performance of the Night.”

As a result of the victory, McGregor became the first UFC fighter to earn knockout victories in the featherweight, lightweight, and welterweight categories in the same bout. On June 6, 2020, McGregor stated that he would be retiring from fighting for the second time.

The UFC has booked McGregor to face former UFC Lightweight Championship challenger Dustin Poirier in a rematch of their 2014 fight at UFC 257 on January 24, 2021, despite his stated intention to retire from fighting.

He was defeated by a technical knockout in the second round, which was his first knockout loss in his professional career to date. The knockout resulted in McGregor being given a medical ban of six months following the fight.

On July 10, 2021, at UFC 264, Conor McGregor faced Dustin Poirier for the third time in their career.

McGregor was eliminated from the fight in the first round by technical knockout after the ringside doctor called a halt to the fight. McGregor had suffered a broken tibia, which prevented him from continuing the fight.

Controversies

When McGregor was charged with exceeding the speed limit in Rathcoole, County Dublin, he pled guilty in November 2017.

He was fined €400 for his actions.

In November 2018, he pleaded guilty to speeding in Kill, County Kildare, and was fined €1000 and suspended from driving for six months as a result of his conviction.

On November 10, 2017, Charlie Ward, a member of McGregor’s SBG Ireland team, made his professional MMA debut against John Redmond at Bellator 187 in Dublin.

Despite the fact that Ward had knocked out Redmond in the first round, McGregor leaped the cage (despite the fact that he was not a licensed cornerman) to celebrate Ward’s victory while the fight had not yet been officially declared over.

Referee Marc Goddard separated McGregor from Redmond because Goddard needed to determine whether the knockout occurred before the bell rang and to guarantee that the cage was locked down so that medical personnel could check the condition of the knocked-out Redmond. McCormick charged towards Goddard, pushing and confronting Goddard in a tumultuous scuffle while also checking on the downed Redmond, knocking him down as he attempted to rise to his feet.

Once McGregor had exited the cage a few minutes later, he took to the cage apron and straddled it in order to prolong the celebration of Ward’s victory over McGregor. When he was halted by a commissioner, McGregor became enraged and smacked the commissioner in the face.

When asked about Goddard’s intentions after the fight, Redmond indicated that Goddard wanted to see it through to round two. However, the Mohegan Sun commission, who was in charge of the event, decided to call it off due to McGregor’s behavior in the ring.

Mike Mazzulli, president of the Mohegan Tribe Department of Athletic Regulation (MTDAR) and the Association of Boxing Commissions, issued a statement a day after the incident, stating that “McGregor’s conduct jeopardized the health and safety” of fighters who were in the cage during the Bellator 187 event in Dublin, Ireland. In addition, Mr. McGregor assaulted Referee Mark Goddard as well as a (member of) the Bellator crew.”

Nurmagomedov and Lobov had a short confrontation on April 3, 2018, during which Nurmagomedov was able to pin Lobov against a cage wall. In addition, Lobov is well-known for his friendship with McGregor, with whom Nurmagomedov has had altercations and trash-talking exchanges.

Historically, the two factions have traded insults and engaged in conflicts.

On April 5, 2018, during promotional appearances for UFC 223, McGregor and a group of approximately twenty individuals were allowed into the Barclays Center by members of his promotional crew who were in possession of proper credentials.

They attempted to confront Nurmagomedov, who was on his way out of the arena in a bus that also had UFC 223 competitors from the “red corner,” including Rose Namajunas, Al Iaquinta, Karolina Kowalkiewicz, Ray Borg, and Michael Chiesa, among others. 181 McGregor raced up alongside the slowly moving bus and then beyond it to grab a metal equipment dolly, which he then flung at the vehicle’s window before attempting to throw additional objects in the area.

Chiesa and Borg were both hurt by shattered glass and were sent to the hospital for treatment. On the suggestion of the New York State Athletic Commission and the UFC’s medical team, they were quickly pulled from the card. Lobov was also removed from the fight as a result of his involvement in the controversy.

Dana White stated that an arrest warrant had been issued for McGregor, and the New York Police Department stated that McGregor was a person of interest.

“This has to be done,” McGregor had instructed White via text message, according to White. According to White, the UFC president, “you can assume he’s going to be sued beyond belief.” White also refuted claims that the violence was a PR gimmick intended to generate interest in the organization’s fighters.

McGregor and those involved in the incident initially fled the Barclays Center following the incident, though he and another accused surrendered themselves later that night, according to police.

McGregor has been charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief in connection with the incident. When he was arraigned, he was charged with menacing and reckless endangerment in addition to the other charges. He was released on $50,000 bond until June 14, 2018.

In accordance with the bail restrictions agreed by McGregor’s then attorney, Jim Walden, and set by the judge, McGregor was permitted to travel freely.

On April 12, 2018, McGregor retained Cozen O’Connor attorney Bruce Mafeo to represent him in this issue. The court ordered McGregor to perform five days of community service and to enroll in anger management programs after he pleaded no contest to a charge of disorderly conduct.

After being attacked by McGregor on September 12, 2018, Chiesa announced his intention to sue the UFC fighter, claiming that he had “suffered pain, suffering, and the loss of pleasure of life” as a result of the incident.

When Khabib Nurmagomedov won his bout against Conor McGregor at UFC 229 on October 6, 2018, he jumped out of the cage and charged at McGregor’s training partner Dillon Danis. Shortly afterward, both McGregor and Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s cousin, attempted to depart the octagon, but an altercation ensued after McGregor attacked Abubakar, who then punched McGregor back.

Both Esed Emiragaev and Zubaira Tukhugov, who was supposed to fight on October 27th at UFC Fight Night: Volkan vs. Smith against Artem Lobov, a member of the Conor McGregor squad who was confronted by Nurmagomedov in April 2018, responded against the Russian fighter.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) withheld Nurmagomedov’s payout for the fight as a result of his acts, awaiting the outcome of an investigation into his behavior.

Nurmagomedov appeared at the post-fight interview and expressed his regrets to the NSAC, while also stating that “you cannot talk about religion in sports.” You are not allowed to bring up the subject of the nation. You are not allowed to talk about these things, gentlemen. I consider this to be of critical importance.”

Both McGregor and Nurmagomedov were named in a formal complaint filed by the National Sports Anti-Doping Commission (NSAC), which voted on October 24 to approve a motion to release half of Nurmagomedov’s $2 million bout payout immediately.

At the very least, both Nurmagomedov and McGregor were banned indefinitely, at least until the official hearing, which took place in December of last year.

A six-month suspension (effective retroactively to October 6, 2018) and a $50,000 fine were announced by the National Sports Authority of Canada (NSAC) on January 29, 2019. On April 6, 2019, he regained his eligibility to compete in the Olympics.

Conor McGregor Wife

Even the toughest competitors on the planet have a softer side to their personalities. Seeing an athlete shift from being a complete savage while competing to becoming an enormous teddy bear after they are reunited with their family is rather surreal. Though he is one of the most offensive boxers on the globe, Conor McGregor has been known to be romantic in his own way on occasion.

Even though we have a lot of information about Conor McGregor’s professional life, there is a lot we don’t know about his personal life. With that said, let’s get to know Conor McGregor and his fiancee Dee Devlin a little better.

Dee Devlin isn’t Conor McGregor’s wife just yet

McGregor and Devlin have been in a relationship since 2007. The couple has three children and intends to tie the knot in the near future.

They first met in a nightclub in Ireland when Conor was just 19 years old, and the rest is history. According to VIP Magazine, McGregor recounted his first meeting with Devlin as follows: “I invited her over and we just started speaking.” She appeared to be a pleasant young lady, and I appreciate pleasant young ladies.”

Devlin comments on McGregor’s romantic side, saying, “I believe he is romantic…

He has the best of intentions! He always manages to surprise me with his cooking, preparing nutritious meals for me, which is wonderful!”

What makes their connection a little more special is the fact that they met before McGregor’s meteoric rise to fame. As of the time of their first meeting, McGregor had recently resigned from his work as a plumber in order to pursue a career in mixed martial arts.

Devlin has been a staunch supporter of Conor since the beginning. She would accompany him to the gym where he would practice and listen intently as he talked about his ambitions to become a successful boxer.

When asked why he fights, McGregor responded, “I’m doing this to ensure the future of my family and Dee.” I dream of one day being able to relax on a beach with my wife, Dee, and not having to worry about a thing in the world.”

McGregor, on the other hand, achieved exactly that, earning millions of dollars as a result of his UFC career.

Conor McGregor net worth

McGregor’s life is a classic example of rags to riches story. Prior to making his MMA debut, he was on welfare, receiving $235 per week from the Irish government as a monthly payment. In today’s world, he is projected to have a net worth of $200 million. The majority of his earnings came from his boxing battle versus Floyd Mayweather, but he also made $200 million from the sale of his whiskey brand, Proper No. 12, which he owned.

McGregor and his fiancée have stated that they believe in the law of attraction, which makes it all the more surreal to witness McGregor’s vision become a reality. McGregor dreamed of being one of the world’s wealthiest boxers, and his dreams came true just as he planned.

Conor McGregor’s height difference with his future wife

On his website, McGregor states that he is five feet eight inches tall, which is two inches taller than Devlin. While the difference in height does not actually matter, it is something that people inquire about for some reason. McGregor stands just one inch below the normal height for men, while Devlin stands two inches over the average height for women at five feet eight inches.

The couple on Instagram and Twitter

While the majority of McGregor’s Instagram postings are of his training, he isn’t afraid to share photos of him and Devlin together as much as he wants. He publishes pictures of his family on a semi-regular basis, which are usually shot on vacation or just around the house. Here are a few photos of McGregor, Devlin, and their three children.
