Vera Farmiga disclosed in an interview with The Guardian in 2013 that her parents, Michael Farmiga, a former systems analyst turned gardener, and Lubomyra “Luba” Farmiga, a schoolteacher, are members of the first generation of Ukrainian Americans. Her grandparents “went through hell, saw unspeakable things, stuff you shouldn’t have to face,” despite the fact that they weren’t born until after the second world war.
