In June 1997, little than a year after going professional, he became the first person to reach the top of the world rankings for the first time. During the first decade of the twenty-first century, Woods was the dominant force in the sport of golf. For 264 straight weeks from August 1999 to September 2004, he was the world’s number one golfer, and he was again at the top of the rankings from June 2005 to October 2010. (281 consecutive weeks).

During this period, he won a total of 13 major titles in the sport of golf.

In the following decade of Woods’ career, he experienced a number of comebacks from personal difficulties and injuries. His professional golf career was suspended from December 2009 to early April 2010 as he attempted to resolve marital troubles with his wife Elin, who was also absent from tournaments at the time. Woods acknowledged having several affairs with his wife, and the couple eventually separated.

In November 2011, he was ranked 58th in the world, but he quickly climbed back to the top of the rankings, reaching the top spot between March and May of the following year.

His ailments, on the other hand, forced him to endure four back surgeries between 2014 and 2017. After competing in only one tournament between August 2015 and January 2018, Woods was eliminated from the world’s top 1,000 golfers’ ranking, according to Golfweek.

As soon as he returned to regular competition, Woods made steady progress toward the top of the game. He won the Tour Championship in September 2018, his first tournament in five years, and the Masters in April 2019, his first major championship in eleven years.

Woods has set a number of golfing records over his career. He has been the world’s number one player for the most consecutive weeks and for the most overall weeks of any golfer in history, and he has done so for the longest period of time.

He has been named PGA Player of the Year a record 11 times while also winning the Byron Nelson Award for having the best overall adjusted scoring average an unprecedented eight times. Woods holds the distinction of becoming the top earner in ten separate seasons on the PGA Tour.

Background and family

Eldrick Tont Woods’ parents, Earl and Kultida “Tida” Woods welcomed him into the world on December 30, 1975, in Cypress, California. He is their only kid, and he has two half-brothers and a half-sister from his father’s first marriage, in addition to his mother’s two children.

His father was an African American and his mother was of European, Native American, and possibly Chinese ancestry, and he was a retired U.S. Army officer and Vietnam War veteran. Earl was born to African American parents and also claimed to have European, Native American, and possibly Chinese ancestry.

Kultida (née Punsawad) is originally from Thailand, where Earl met her while on a tour of duty there in 1968. Kultida is married to Earl, and they have two children. Her ancestors are of mixed Thai, Chinese, and Dutch descent.

“For the record, he is one-quarter Thai, one-quarter Chinese, one-quarter Caucasian, one-quarter African American, and one-eighth Native American,” according to ESPN in 2002. Tiger has termed his ethnic make-up as “Cablinasian,” which means “Cablinasian” (a syllabic abbreviation he coined from Caucasian, Black, American Indian, and Asian).

Woods’s given name, Eldrick, was chosen by his mother because it began with the letter “E” (for Earl) and concluded with the letter “K” (for King) (for Kultida).

Tont is a traditional Thai given name that he uses as his middle name. Tiger was given to him as a nickname in honor of his father’s buddy, South Vietnamese Colonel Vuong Dang Phong, who was also known by the nickname Tiger.

Woods has a niece, Cheyenne Woods, who was a member of the Wake Forest University golf team before becoming professional in 2012 when she competed in the LPGA Championship in her professional debut.

Early life

Woods grew up in the California county of Orange. He was a child prodigy who was introduced to the game of golf by his athletic father, Earl Woods when he was just two years old. Earl was a single-digit handicap amateur golfer who also happened to be one of the first African-American college baseball players at Kansas State University, where he played baseball for the Wildcats.

Due to the fact that his father was a member of the military, he was granted playing privileges at the Navy golf course near the Joint Forces Training Base in Los Alamitos, which allowed Tiger to participate in the tournament. Additionally, Tiger played at the par-3 Heartwell Golf Course in Long Beach, as well as a few municipal courses in and around Long Beach.

In 1978, Woods competed against comedian Bob Hope in a television appearance on The Mike Douglas Show, which was shown on NBC. He shot a 48 over nine holes on the Navy course when he was three years old. He first appeared in Golf Digest at the age of five, and then on ABC’s, That’s Incredible! Woods won the Under Age 10 segment of the Drive, Pitch, and Putt competition, which was held at the Navy Golf Course in Cypress, before he turned seven years old.

In 1984, at the age of eight, he won the 9–10 boys’ event at the Junior World Golf Championships, the youngest age category that was eligible at the time. At the age of eight, he became the first person to break the 80-minute mark. He went on to win the Junior World Championships six times, including four straight victories from 1988 to 1991, and the Senior World Championships twice.

Professional career

The year was 1996, and Woods was just 20 years old when he made his professional debut. He instantly signed endorsement deals with Nike, Inc., and Titleist, which at the time were among the most lucrative endorsement deals in golf history.

Woods was elected Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 1996, and he was also named PGA Tour Rookie of the Year in the same year.

In 1997, he won his first major, the Masters’ Tournament, in record-breaking form, becoming the tournament’s youngest victor at the age of 21. Within two months of that, he had established a new world record for the fastest ascension to the top of the Official World Golf Rankings. Following a disappointing 1998 season, Woods concluded the 1999 season with eight victories, including the PGA Championship, a milestone not achieved since Johnny Miller accomplished it in 1974, according to Woods.

With an eyesight assessment of 11 diopters, Woods had severe myopia (nearsightedness). As a result, he underwent successful laser eye surgery in 1999 and was able to immediately return to winning tournaments on the PGA Tour. In 2007, his vision began to degrade once more, prompting him to undergo laser eye surgery for the second time.

Woods won six consecutive PGA Tour events in 2000, which was the longest winning streak on the tour since Ben Hogan won six in a row from 1948 to 1949. He won the U.S Open in 2011, breaking or tying nine tournament records during what Sports Illustrated dubbed “the greatest performance in golf history.” Woods won by a record 15-stroke margin, earning him $800,000 in prize money. He became the youngest golfer in history to complete the Career Grand Slam when he turned 24.

Woods had won nine of the twenty PGA Circuit events in which he had completed by the end of 2000, and he had set a new record for the lowest scoring average in the history of the tour. He was elected Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year twice, making him the only athlete to have received the accolade more than once. Golf Digest magazine ranked him as the twelfth-best golfer of all time.

After winning the 2001 Masters, Woods became the first player in history to win four consecutive major professional golf titles, albeit not all in the same calendar year, when he became the first to do so. The “Tiger Slam” is a term that was coined to describe this accomplishment.

Following a successful 2001 and 2002 season in which he continued to dominate the PGA Tour, Woods’ career entered a lull in 2003. He did not win a major championship in either 2003 or 2004. In September 2004, Vijay Singh passed Woods in the Official World Golf Rankings, putting an end to Woods’ record-breaking string of 264 weeks at the top of the rankings.

Tiger Woods rebounded in 2005, winning six PGA Tour events and regained the number one ranking in July, after trading the position back and forth with Vijay Singh during the first half of the season.

Tiger Woods had a dominant start to the 2006 season, winning his first two PGA tournaments but falling short of claiming his sixth Masters title in April.

As a result of his father’s death in May, Woods took some time off from the tour and seemed out of sorts when he returned to the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, where he missed the cut.

However, he rapidly regained his form and finished the year by winning six straight events on the PGA Tour in Europe. At the end of the season, Woods had 54 overall victories, including 12 major championships; he had broken the tour’s records for both total victories and total major championships in a span of eleven seasons.

Woods maintained his high level of performance throughout 2007 and the early half of 2008. In April 2008, he suffered knee surgery and was forced to miss the remainder of the tour for the next two months.

When Woods returned for the 2008 U.S. Open, his performance was shaky on the first day, but he eventually won in dramatic fashion by one stroke over Rocco Mediate after an 18-hole playoff, after which Mediate said, “This guy does things that are just not normal by any stretch of the imagination,” and Kenny Perry added, “He beat everybody on one leg.”

In a follow-up announcement two days later, Woods revealed that he would be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to additional knee surgery and that his knee had been damaged more severely than previously revealed, prompting even greater praise for his performance at the United States Open. Woods referred to it as “my finest championship ever.”

The absence of Woods resulted in a significant drop in television ratings for the remainder of the season compared to 2007.

Woods made his long-awaited comeback to golf in 2009, and he did so with a strong showing. The highlight of his comeback was a brilliant performance at the 2009 Presidents Cup, but he failed to win a major for the first time since 2004, which was the first time since 2004.

Woods declared in December 2009 that he would be taking an indefinite vacation from competitive golf after his marital infidelities came to light and garnered widespread media attention at the end of 2009 (see further information below).

In February 2010, he apologized on national television for his actions, saying, “I was wrong and I was foolish.” Several corporations terminated their endorsement agreements with Woods during this time period.

Woods returned to competitive action in April 2010 at the Masters, where he finished in a tie for fourth place with Patrick Reed.

After the Masters, he had a dismal performance at the Quail Hollow Championship and the Players Championship, when he withdrew in the fourth round due to an injury, respectively.

Hank Haney, who had been Woods’ coach since 2003, resigned from his position shortly after. Sean Foley was hired by Woods as Haney’s replacement in August of this year. Woods’ season continued to deteriorate as he failed to win a single tournament for the first time since turning professional, despite finishing the season ranked No. 2 on the world rankings list.

Dating History

Following Tiger Woods’ terrible vehicle accident in February 2021, the entire globe has rallied around him and his family. In response to the horrifying situation, the golfer’s ex-girlfriends, including Lindsey Vonn and Rachel Uchitel, have shown their support for the athlete.

Tiger Woods Wife Elin Nordegren

Woods tied the knot with Elin Nordegren in 2004. The couple is the parents of two children, Sam and Charlie, who were born to them. Their marriage came crashing down in late 2009 as a result of Woods’ infidelity, and their divorce was formalized a year after that.

Tiger Woods Girlfriend Rachel Uchitel

Rachel Uchitel was at the center of Woods’ cheating scandal in 2009, and she has since spoken out about the affair in the HBO documentary “Tiger,” which will be broadcast in 2021 on HBO.

Page Six interviewed Uchitel, who said she used the opportunity to clear up any misconceptions that people had about her and the situation. “I really took advantage of the opportunity to be able to clear up any misconceptions that people had about me and the situation because people use me as sort of a brand for… the other woman,” Uchitel said in the interview.

Jamie Jungers

Jamie Jungers has also claimed that she and Woods were involved in an affair. Jungers talked about the alleged tryst in an interview with the “Today” show in late 2009, claiming that they met at a nightclub in Las Vegas in 2005.

When Jungers was interviewed, he admitted that he had not received a birthday card. “All I got out of this relationship was a broken heart,” says the author.

Tiger Woods Girlfriend Cori Rist

Cori Rist, a former lingerie model, claimed she met Woods in a nightclub in 2006 and that they became friends. The two were involved in each other’s lives for around six months.

Jaimee Grubbs

Jaimee Grubs, a cocktail server, claimed she had an affair with Woods that lasted for more than two years, according to her.

Lindsey Vonn

The golfer found love again with Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn after being embroiled in the cheating scandal that rocked the sport. Their romance was established in 2013, after which they were together for about three years.

“I will treasure the memories that we have made together for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, we both have extremely busy schedules that cause us to spend most of our time apart,” Vonn wrote on social media in May 2015.

Tiger Woods Girlfriend  Kristin Smith

From 2015 through 2017, Woods was in a relationship with Kristin Smith. According to TMZ, Smith was reportedly involved in an arbitration dispute with Woods over a non-disclosure agreement as recently as April 2018.

Smith is claimed to have halted the connection because he believed Woods had been disloyal to his partner.

Tiger Woods Girlfriend Erica Herman

Woods and Erica Herman have been dating for more than three years, according to reports that first surfaced in 2017. Herman has accompanied Woods to a number of golf tournaments, including the 2018 Tour Championship, where he sealed his victory with a kiss from Herman after winning the tournament.

When the President’s Cup was held in Jersey City, New Jersey, in September 2017, Tiger and the Florida native, who is nearly ten years his junior, made their relationship public. She was recognized there with a credential indicating she was a “player spouse.”

It was while she was an undergrad student at the University of Central Florida in Orlando that Erica first met the athlete, according to Page Six. She studied political science at the University of Central Florida and hoped to pursue a career as a lawyer after graduation. In order to help pay for college, Erica worked at the Blue Martini, where Tiger was a regular customer — nevertheless, the two didn’t become close until after Erica graduated from high school.

As reported by Golf.com, in 2015, the PGA champion launched his own restaurant in Jupiter, Florida, called The Woods, where he employed Erica to act as general manager, among other things.

Erica Is Supportive of the Golfer’s Career

Since their initial public appearance together, Erica has frequently been spotted by Tiger’s side at big tournaments and contests across the world. Most recently, she was in the front row to support him as he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame on March 9, 2022, in St. Louis, Missouri.

She also accompanied Tiger to the 2019 Masters, where he won his fifteenth major championship and subsequently joined him at the White House, where he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among other honors.

She’s Close to His Family

According to People, Tiger’s children, Charlie, 12, and Sam, 14, are supportive of the relationship, and Tiger’s live-in girlfriend has also had the blessing of the golfer’s ex-wife, Elin Nordegren, according to the magazine.

“Elin and Erica are friendly with one another,” a source informed the magazine in January 2019. The fact that Tiger has come a long way is acknowledged by Elin. “She is delighted that he is dating Erica,” she says.

It Hasn’t Always Been Easy for the Couple

They have been through some difficult times together, but they still appear to be a strong and supportive couple. In 2019, Tiger and Erica were the subjects of a wrongful death lawsuit brought against them by the parents of a bartender who worked at The Woods. It is alleged that the 24-year-old bartender was over-served at the sports bar, which resulted in a deadly car accident in December 2018. According to Golf Digest, the couple’s lawsuit against them was eventually thrown out of court.

When Tiger was engaged in a car accident in February 2021, the couple was thrust into yet another scary situation. It was necessary to deploy “jaws of life” to extricate the 15-time major champion from his overturned SUV after it went over. “Significant” injuries were sustained as a result of the accident.

“The instant she learned what had happened, she dropped everything to be with Tiger,” a source told Us Weekly in March 2021. Her presence at his bedside, holding his hand and assuring him that everything is going to be well, has been comforting. “He’s a champ, and he’s got this under control.”

The insider went on to say that Tiger appreciated her support and that it meant the world to him.

As a result of the disaster, Tiger stated to Golf Digest in an interview published in November 2021 that he will never again play golf “full time” as a result of the accident.

His reality, he continued, “is a terrible reality, but it’s my reality.” “And I understand it, and I accept it,” says the author.
