All we know about Netflix’s second season of Sweet Tooth has been confirmed to arrive in 2023.

Sweet Tooth season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix in 2023. The DC comics series was a hit on Netflix in 2021 and received a quick season 2 order, but the delay has been long due to a lengthy production process. Here’s our entire guide to everything we know about Sweet Tooth season 2, including which new characters will appear, what we can expect, and when we can expect our next news dump.

Sweet Tooth, based on Jeff Lemire’s comic book, premiered on Netflix on June 4th, 2021. Warner Brothers Television, DC Entertainment, and Team Downey are behind it.

The series takes place in a post-apocalyptic future in which a viral outbreak wipes off the majority of the world’s population. It also witnesses the birth of hybrid children. Gus, a young boy who is half-human and half-deer, lives in a lonely region with his father.

When was Sweet Tooth renewed for a season 2?

To be renewed by Netflix, shows must meet certain criteria, and while we never know exactly what those criteria are, Sweet Tooth definitely met them and was renewed for a second season.

According to our tracking and data from FlixPatrol, the show was a hit in practically all Netflix areas. We’ve seen this year that most shows that can stay in the top 10s in at least one region for about 30 days will earn a new season.

The show was in the top ten in the United States for around 30 days. In the United Kingdom, that amount was 32 days. In fact, practically every region of Netflix that FlixPatrol monitors indicate that the show was a worldwide success.

Where is Season 2 of Sweet Tooth in production?

We can confirm that season 2 filming began in January 2022 and continued through the summer thanks to several casting calls and production sheets.

The project was originally expected to conclude filming on May 31st, 2022, according to Variety Insight.

Season 1 was in production for 135 days across 72 sets, for those who are unaware. The show is shot entirely in New Zealand, and season 2 will be no exception.

Season 2 was shot in Auckland and Warkworth, New Zealand.

Christian Convery said on Instagram on January 18th, 2022, that they were back on set. “So happy to be back with my awesome homie and Stunt Double @liamjreynoldss,” the caption said below the photo. Let’s get started!”

Convery also spoke to Tresa Magazine during filming on reuniting with the cast for season 2 and said:

“Reuniting with the cast for Season 2 filming was AWESOME!” We were all so excited to see each other again that we made every effort to stay in touch via phone conversations, FaceTime, text messages, and visiting each other whenever we could! Being able to hang out with each other when we weren’t filming was also a terrific indicator of how unique our relationship was.

Filming wrapped in early June 2022, as mentioned in our Geeked Week article above.

In October 2022, we received a brief update from Christian Convery, who was still in New Zealand but working on the series ADR. ADR is for Automatic dialogue replacement and refers to the technique of re-recording an actor’s lines in a quiet area during post-production. This process, according to his Instagram, continued into November and even December 2022.

Susan Downey explained why they chose New Zealand to film Sweet Tooth, saying:

“Filming in New Zealand gave us a really beautiful and exaggerated landscape that played perfectly into the look we were going for because, unlike many post-apocalyptic stories where everything’s kind of grey and dusty with crumbling buildings, the central idea for Sweet Tooth was that nature was reclaiming everything. We came up with the concept of “storybook dystopia,” which meant that everything had to be lush, green, and heightened. “The atmosphere was great for the storyline.”

Sweet Tooth season 2 filming ended in 2022

Sweet Tooth season 2 was set to begin filming in early 2022 and end in June 2022, according to What’s on Netflix. We don’t know when production ended, but it was most likely in 2022. In June 2022, Netflix released a video revealing that production had concluded during Netflix Geeked Week 2022.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Release Date

Season 2 was supposed to arrive on Netflix in 2022, but that hasn’t happened.

Netflix confirmed the series’ comeback in 2023 as part of their announcement of their kids and family slate. Season 2 will indeed premiere on Netflix in 2023, according to Peter Friedlander in a Variety interview.

Unfortunately, we are still waiting for an official release date and are tentatively anticipating Season 2 of Sweet Tooth on Netflix in Q2 or Q3 of 2023.

Sweet Tooth Season 2 Plot

While the program closely follows the comics (albeit much lighter than the comics), you’ll know there’s plenty more tale to tell.

We now know where Gus’ mother is (Alaska), and we can follow their journey north. It’s assumed she’s up there looking for a cure.

Gus had been taken by The Last Men by the end of Season 1. A plan to save him is currently in place. The good news is that Big Man appears to have survived his injuries.

Here are some more notable recaps from the final episode:

Pigtail is Bear’s separated sister.

Jepperd’s son is most likely the black sheep glimpsed briefly among the hybrids imprisoned with Gus.

Birdie is alive and well in Alaska, and Bear has communicated with her through a satellite phone.

We also hope to learn more about the virus that produced the alterations in the first place. Such information was not given in the series, but it was revealed in the comics in issue 26. DigitalSpy has a nice account of how the virus came to be, but just read it if you want to know before the show.

Sweet Tooth season 2 Cast

We learned that casting for Sweet Tooth season 2 was beginning in August and September 2021.

The show’s second season, in particular, was casting a variety of new hybrids (some of which have been in the comics and others who haven’t).

We previously reported on four new hybrids set to be cast in late August 2021, which are as follows:

“Finn Fox – A mostly human creature with fox ears, red fur, and a bushy foxtail. He’s new to the hybrid family, and he’s sly and watchful. He’s seen the good and terrible in humans, therefore he can be suspicious of others, including fellow hybrids like Gus. He’s bold, self-assured, and maybe a little deceptive as if he’s got something up his sleeve. His parents taught him to speak before they died, but he isn’t very good at it. He jumbles his thoughts into run-on sentences and only speaks out when it matters. When he does, however, people pay attention.

Wally the Walrus – He has a large set of tusks, small flippers, and deep, expressive eyes. He’s a newcomer to the hybrid family and still extremely bashful. He misses his adopted mother, Aimee, who has worked hard to help him feel more at ease with the group. He is terrified of the dark and finds it difficult to sleep without a nightlight. As he speaks, his words are transcribed into song lyrics. He has a song-like cadence. He needs to be near water.

Haley Mockingbird – She has a beak and walks on stork-like legs. She’s a lively, impatient child who has strong feelings and isn’t afraid to express them. The only problem is that her vocabulary is restricted. When she speaks, she uses an angry bird song or anger tweets. She can, however, precisely imitate the words and sounds of others. She is usually involved in some sort of quarrel and can be a nuisance to others. Nonetheless, she would prefer to irritate grownups than her siblings.

– JoJo Cat She is wide-eyed and docile, and she is always fascinated by people and puzzles. Essentially everything. If she’s in a cage, she tries to escape. She becomes riveted when she sees a light or people moving. She enjoys curling up into a ball and napping all day. But, once the sun sets, she spends hours playing with her brothers. She moves with breakneck speed and runs circles around her playmates. She enjoys grooming her hair and her huge ears. She is allergic to humans and other animals.”

Furthermore, a casting call from the National Foundation for Deaf & Hard of Hearing in September 2021 indicated that they were looking for “gifted kids who may be deaf, hearing-impaired HOH, and youth conversant in NZSL Sign Language.”

Maya Monkey will be played by Amie Donald in Season 2 of the show. Her breakthrough performance was in Universal Pictures M3gan, which premiered in theatres in January 2023. Donald plays Megan in M3gan, but with a mask (?).

Twyla is played by Kiri-Rose Kendall, Herb is played by Nigel Godfrey, and

According to IMDb, the following actors have been cast in Season 2 of Sweet Tooth:

  • Caden Dragomer as Earl
  • Craig Hall as Marlin
  • Enroll Shand as Rufus
