Will the Grishaverse live on?

Season two of Shadow and Bone arrives, and General Kirigan, or The Darkling, is larger, badder, and more powerful than ever.

This season, our Sun Summoner Alina was obliged to protect Ravka from greater catastrophe by attempting to end the Fold and Kirigan’s reign of terror once and for all. (Of course, with some new allies in tow.)

Kirigan, however, lives on, and the stakes have been heightened; what does the future hold for Alina and the company?

Here’s all you need to know about Season 3 of Shadow and Bone.

Shadow and Bone

Shadow and Bone is a popular fantasy series created by Eric Heisserer for Netflix. The show is based on the Grishaverse novels written by Leigh Bardugo, which includes the Shadow and Bone trilogy and the Six of Crows duology.

The series follows the story of Alina Starkov, an orphan mapmaker in the war-torn land of Ravka who discovers she has the power to summon light and is the only one who can defeat the darkness that has engulfed her world. As she navigates this new power and the dangerous political landscape of Ravka, she teams up with a group of soldiers and the cunning criminals known as the Crows to save her country and the people she loves.

The first season of Shadow and Bone premiered on Netflix in April 2021, and a second season was announced soon after. The show has been praised for its world-building, strong characters, and visual effects, and has gained a large and dedicated fanbase.

Shadow and Bone Season 3 Release Date

Given the phenomenal success of Shadow and Bone, we believe season three is a certain conclusion.

After all, the program’s creator, Eric Heisserer, previously told Collider that he’s always had a “three-season plan” for the show.

Meanwhile, author Leigh Bardugo has higher ambitions for the Grishaverse, telling Inverse that she’d “want to see us have another five seasons.” That would be incredible.

The first season of Shadow and Bone was published on Netflix in April 2021, however, season two was nearly two years in the making due to something called the epidemic.

Production on TV series and movies appear to be resumed, therefore based on the release dates of the past two seasons, we believe Shadow and Bone will return for a third season in the spring of next year.

As always, we’ll let you know as soon as we have more information.

Shadow and Bone Season 3 Cast

If Shadow and Bone return for a third season, we can expect the following cast members to return:

  • Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov
  • Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker
  • Amita Suman as Inej Ghafa
  • Kit Young as Jesper Fahey
  • Archie Renaux as Mal Oretsev
  • Danielle Galligan as Nina Zenik
  • ZoĆ« Wanamaker as Baghra
  • Luke Pasqualino as David Kostyk

Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson), Wylan Hendriks (Jack Wolfe), and the twins, Tolya (Lewis Tan) and Tamar (Anna Leong Brophy), were some of the newest arrivals to season two, and they’ll all be returning for round three.

General Kirigan, alias The Darkling, may not return after what happened to him in the season two finale. Nonetheless, it’s difficult to picture this show losing Ben Barnes totally because he’s the biggest name in the group, so there’s a chance he’ll be brought back by magic and/or flashbacks, as fantasy series are inclined to do.

Shadow and Bone Season 3 Plot

Season three narrative information has yet to be revealed because the program has not yet been formally renewed by Netflix at the time of writing.

Season two has already covered vast swaths of the source material in one fell swoop, so Leigh Bardugo’s novels aren’t going to be much help in forecasting what’s coming next. This second group of episodes covers the second and third books in the Shadow and Bone trilogy in quick succession, as well as elements from other Grishaverse novels such as Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.

That doesn’t imply there isn’t more to the story. The season two finale picks up where the original book trilogy leaves off, with the death of the Darkling. However, Alina and Mal have a happy ending after everyone believes Alina is dead, allowing her to acquire a new name and reopen the orphanage where they both grew up.

Netflix’s adaption deviates significantly from this by splitting the couple up at the end of season two and injecting new darkness into Alina’s life. The series’ conclusion may eventually mimic the books, but there’s a lot of fresh ground to cover in season three that lovers of the books will miss as the series progresses.
