The protagonist Sara is a breath of fresh air and an underappreciated strong female lead. She is the same as many of the other females at her school, with the exception that she is not popular and is slightly obsessed with boys. Having said that, she possesses a unique and amusing personality, and she also has a tendency to be clumsy and awkward at times. Sara has a knack for words and is able to sway even the most unyielding of strangers despite the flaws she possesses. Even if some readers find the premise of The Kiss Bet to be lacking in tension or intrigue, the story is nevertheless enjoyable to read because of Sara and her pals.
