Bio
Mohammad Azharuddin, a politician from India and a former international cricketer, was born on February 8, 1963. TPC Working President and former MLA for Moradabad, he currently serves in that capacity. During his international career, he played 99 Test matches and 334 ODIs for the Indian national cricket team until being banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for life for match-fixing in 2000. The life ban was lifted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2012.
As a candidate of the Indian National Congress, Azharuddin was elected to the Indian Parliament in 2009, representing Moradabad.

Early life and education

Azharuddin scored 179 in the second innings of the Second Test at Manchester in response to England’s first-innings total of 519. Between lunch and tea on day three, he scored 103 runs off 107 balls while putting on a 112-run stand with Sachin Tendulkar, playing attacking cricket. The 39th and last test of his career saw him pass the 100-run mark in just 155 deliveries.

When South Africa visited India in 1996–97, Azharuddin equaled an Indian player’s record of a century in the Second Test at Calcutta. Azharuddin equaled Kapil Dev’s record for the fastest Test century by an Indian player and ranked fourth overall, in terms of balls faced, in response to South Africa’s first innings total of 428.
Resuming batting after retiring hurt the night before, Azharuddin hit 50 in 35 balls and scored 91 runs in the first session of play, the second quickest for India. An India national record eighth-wicket stand of 161 runs was shared with Anil Kumble as they “hooked and pulled” to overcome his “weakness against the short-pitched delivery”. Azharuddin, a middle-order batsman, was noted for his aggressive style of play and excellent slip catches, but he was plagued by a short-ball problem. When Azharuddin played for India, he scored 6,215 runs at an average of 45.03, including 22 centuries and 21 half-centuries. He appeared in 99 test matches. In one-day internationals, he scored 9,378 runs at an average of 36.92 in 334 appearances. He made 156 catches in one-day international cricket as a fielder. He became the only Indian batsman to score a century in both his debut and final Test matches, thus becoming only the fifth batter in history to achieve this remarkable feat.
The BCCI banned Azharuddin for life in 2000 after he was found guilty of match-fixing. Azharuddin scored 112 runs at an average of 28 in India’s 2000 tour of South Africa, which they won 3–2.
Azharuddin-trained Indian cricketers who were also involved in match-fixing had similarly poor results.

Azharuddin was banned for life by the International Cricket Council and the Board of Control for Cricket in India following a report by the Central Bureau of Investigation.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court’s Divisional Bench, comprised of Justice Ashutosh Mohunta and Justice Krishna Mohan Reddy, overturned the order on November 8, 2012, following the discovery of new evidence. Although Azhar never returned to the field, the court ruled that the ban was invalid. Azharuddin was 49 years old at the time of the verdict. Since 2019, he has served as head of the Hyderabad Cricket Board.

Political career
On February 19, 2009, Azharuddin formally joined the Indian National Congress. To become a Member of the Indian Parliament, he was elected in the 2009 general election from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Earlier this year, Mohammed Azaharuddin made it known that he intends to run for the Parliamentary seat of Secunderabad in the upcoming year.
He now serves as the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee’s Working President.
