Uses
Cetirizine is an antihistamine that is used to treat allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, hives, runny nose, watery eyes, and itchy eyes and nose. It has its effect by inhibiting the production of a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body produces in response to an allergic reaction. Cetirizine is not effective in preventing or treating significant allergic reactions, including hives (such as anaphylaxis). If your allergist has recommended epinephrine as a treatment for allergic responses, you should always have an injector of epinephrine on you at all times. It is not recommended that you use cetirizine in place of epinephrine.
