Blanket Jackson
Leaving aside his father’s renowned eccentricities, the world’s first and most unforgettable look of the newborn known as Blanket Jackson was odd by any standard.
When Michael Jackson brought his then-9-month-old son, Prince Michael Jackson II (born on Nov. 19, 2002), to the balcony of their suite at the Adlon Hotel in Berlin, he proceeded to hold him over the railing to show him off to his adoring fans. A throng of photographers swarmed around the pop icon’s third child, but a towel was placed over his face to prevent them from getting a good look.
Despite the fact that Jackson was in Germany to accept an award commemorating his lifelong devotion to assisting children at the time of the occurrence, the incident sparked indignation throughout the world and even served as the inspiration for a sad story element in a Law & Order episode from three years later.
During the course of a single day, the public’s fear about Jackson’s ability to be a father reached a boiling point. “I make no excuses for what happened,” Jackson said in a statement. “I got swept up in the exhilaration of the moment and forgot about everything else. I would never put my children’s life in jeopardy unless it was absolutely necessary.”
When it came to Jackson’s parenting style, however, the intrigue had only just begun, and it wasn’t until after his death in 2009 that glimpses of him as a so-called “normal dad” began to emerge, thanks to loving memories shared by his two eldest children, Prince Jackson (born Michael Joseph Jackson Jr.) and Paris Jackson, that the truth began to emerge (born Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson).
Jackson’s eldest child, that adorable little baby who was so memorable introduced to the world, is now twenty years old. He changed his name from “Blanket” to “Bigi” a few years ago after growing tired of the moniker. In addition to enjoying movies, he was “very into comics and the comic book world,” according to a source who spoke to E! News as his high school graduation approached, and he was living the typical adolescent life, despite his extraordinary family history.

According to the source, he was “particularly close” with his older brother, Prince, while all three siblings are close overall.
“My younger brother is now considered a legal adult. what the f—k is going on, “Paris, now 23 years old, posted a message on Instagram for Bigi’s 18th birthday in 2019, in which she included a few old images. “I used to be the one who changed his diapers. We are very proud of the handsome, brilliant, insightful, hilarious and compassionate young man he has grown into. This trip has been incredible. I’m not going to say anything else since he values his privacy. hbd, little brother.”
Bigi Jackson is the least well-known of the Jackson children, but he agreed to an interview with Good Morning America in November, during which he was given a tour of a room filled with artifacts from his father’s renowned career.
The man described the place as having “a lot of really great stuff.” “This house and studio, I believe, have a great deal of history to tell us about themselves. In fact, that’s what he was all about, and it’s kind of what all of us want to accomplish as well: create things that people will ideally enjoy while also having the potential to improve their lives.”
Bigi did make a rare public appearance with his brothers on February 1 for the Broadway premiere of Michael Jackson: The Musical, despite the fact that he hasn’t expressed a desire in maintaining a more public persona.
“When we were growing up, my father would say things like, ‘We may have nothing, but if you look around in this room, you’ll see your brother, your sister, and me, and that’s all you’ll ever have,'” says the author. On Good Morning Britain in October, Prince, who will be 25 on February 13, spoke about his life. I remember my siblings and I talk about how that had always resonated with us, and we have a very tight relationship.”
In addition, he revealed that their father had told him that he would be responsible for looking after his brother and sister in the future because he was the oldest. Unfortunately, that halt in the journey came much sooner than expected when Michael passed away in 2009 at the age of 50, and Prince stated he wasn’t prepared to take over.

Following his death and our being thrust into the “real world,” he went on to say that “my siblings, honestly—they picked up the slack that I, regrettably, left behind.”
And now they’re all young adults, which is mind-boggling for anyone who recalls when they were born, their arrivals shrouded in secrecy, and how they came to be in such a strange place.
Despite the fact that there are only a few years between them, Prince observed that no one actually acted in the position of the oldest or youngest any longer. “Every moment that I get to spend with them—whether it’s a small family dinner or a small family outing,” he explained, “is a truly special moment for me.”
Furthermore, they have a legacy to uphold and maintain.
On the other hand, “”I think with any siblings, you know, you grow up in a situation and factors that are very similar,” Prince said in an interview with Access Hollywood in October 2019 about the “Thriller Night” benefit he hosted at his family’s home in Encino, Calif., for his Healing Los Angeles foundation.
“Similarly, in that situation, you form a link with them since no one else can truly comprehend how you grew up or how you were raised except for you. But they completely understand you, and it’s a very raw and unedited interaction between the two of you. I think it only strengthened us as siblings to have that bond, to have that very real and raw relationship with each other, where we know it’s always love. And especially in a large group of people who may not have the best intentions for you, it’s very easy to get caught up in a large number of fake personalities.”
The measures Jackson took to preserve his children’s privacy don’t appear to be all that unusual in retrospect; but, at the time, Jackson’s efforts—most notably, having the children wear masks in public—only served to further enhance the artist’s odd reputation. After being cleared of child molestation accusations following a circus-style trial in 2005, Jackson would go on to distrust the media for the rest of his life.
Nonetheless, the artist’s relationship with fame was always complicated, as he was both the biggest star in the world for a time and a childlike man who never had a chance to grow up properly after being thrust into the limelight when he was only 6 years old, with the weight of his family’s fortunes resting squarely on his inordinately talented shoulders.

As a result, he desired for his own children to have the opportunity to experience childhood.
“My father addresses me as if I were an adult. He explained that the masks were necessary because he wanted us to be able to live our own lives without him “In November 2016, Prince spoke with the Los Angeles Times about his life.
“When I was younger, I don’t recall ever considering whether or not other children lived in a similar manner. However, as I discovered who he was, I realized that this was not normal. I remember being in Disneyland and walking up to the window and seeing a sea of people waving and snapping pictures of me. I thought it was hilarious. The fact that I thought that was usual prompted me to simply wave back.. You could argue that my entire existence has been out of the ordinary. That, on the other hand, is something I genuinely enjoy, and it’s all I’ve ever known.”
The prince graduated from Loyola Marymount University and has devoted his life to philanthropy, while Paris began modeling and singing and was a member of the band The Soundflowers with her then-boyfriend Gabriel Glenn. Prince and Paris have been together since they were teenagers.
They are still figuring out what kind of public life they want to lead, nearly 13 years after tragedy thrust them into a different kind of spotlight than the one they were already in. They understand better than most just how difficult it is to strike a balance when you choose to pursue a career in any form of entertainment, and fame is practically built into their DNA.
According to Paris, who spoke with Rolling Stone at the beginning of 2017, Michael Jackson would speak candidly to her and Prince about the trial and the accusations leveled against him. “My dad would cry to me at night,” Paris recalled.
“Consider the scenario in which your parent sobs to you about how the world despises him for something he did not do. And he was the only thing that mattered to me at the time. Due to the fact that I was seeing my entire world in agony, I began to despise the world for what they were doing to him. I’m thinking to myself, ‘How can people be so cruel?'”
She went on to say, “He did not bulls—t us in any way. You make every effort to ensure that your children have the greatest childhood possible. However, you must also prepare them for life in the real world, which might be difficult.”

All of this has also led to the two becoming particularly protective of Bigi, who has remained the least visible member of the Michael Jackson branch of their huge family tree despite her close association with the late Michael Jackson. Paris shared a photo of herself with both of her brothers around Christmas time in 2017, marking the first time the public had seen a sanctioned photo of Bigi in several years at the time.
When their father died on June 25, 2009, he was just seven years old. At the Staples Center in Los Angeles, where the artist’s children were officially introduced to the public, it was at the big star-studded memorial for Jackson that everyone got their first true glimpse of them. The most tragic moment was undoubtedly when 11-year-old Paris announced to a doubting world, in a voice that had never been heard before, that she had been adopted. “I just wanted to express my gratitude to Daddy for being the most wonderful parent anyone could ever hope to have. And I just wanted to express my deep affection for him.”
In the front row, with his brothers and grandparents, the boy, still known as Blanket, sat with a program and a Michael Jackson doll in his lap, hugging the program and the doll.
It was decided that Katherine Jackson would look after all three of the children. She did a fantastic job!
Despite the support of their grandmother (she and her husband Joe Jackson remained married but had been living apart for years before Joe Jackson died in 2018), Prince, Paris, and Blanket each faced their own challenges adjusting to life without their father, who had been their constant companion. Prince, Paris, and Blanket each faced their own challenges adjusting to life without their father.
Previously, they had been home-schooled while living with their father at his Neverland Ranch and at the huge family estate in Encino, which was known as “the Hayvenhurst House,” but after his death, they were forced to enroll in a private school system.
“Aunt La Toya Jackson told The Daily Beast in 2011 that her children were doing “exceptionally well.” “Michael put masks on them in order to shield them and keep them secure from anyone who might wish to harm him or his family. He’s no longer here. My mother’s first words to them were, ‘Today we’re unmasking you,’ and that was the first thing she did. ‘Today is the day when the masks come off.'”
Even the moniker Blanket, on the other hand, assured that Prince Michael II would be regarded as a mystery.
When asked why he chose the term, Michael Jackson said, “It’s an expression I use with my family and my colleagues.” “I tell them, “you should blanket me, you should blanket her with something”—which means, for example, that a blanket is a godsend in disguise. It’s a means of expressing affection and concern.” Meanwhile, Blanket’s biological mother’s identity remained a mystery until the present day.
According to J. Randy Taraborrelli’s Michael Jackson: The Madness, the Magic, the Whole Story, Jackson did reveal that he utilized a surrogate mother and his own sperm cells to conceive. “She is unfamiliar with me, and I am unfamiliar with her. As long as she was healthy and had decent vision, it didn’t matter what race she belonged to me. And her intelligence—I was interested in finding out how brilliant she is.”
In the years following his almost literal unveiling at the age of seven, Blanket would occasionally appear with his siblings Paris and Prince at events honoring their father, such as the 2011 premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson: The Immortal World Tour in Las Vegas and a tribute concert in 2013, during which the three of them went on stage to introduce a satellite performance by Beyoncé.
“They always say, ‘Time heals,'” Paris said in an interview with Rolling Stone. “However, this is not the case. It’s just a matter of getting used to it.”
Katherine Jackson lost touch with her grandchildren for ten days in 2012, causing a rift in the family that took months to heal. The children’s then-34-year-old cousin T.J. Jackson (the youngest son of Michael’s brother Tito Jackson) was appointed co-guardian of Blanket, Paris, and Prince, and received the blessing of Katherine Jackson.
In October 2017, Katherine completed the paperwork necessary to transfer full guardianship to T.J., a married father of four children and stepfather of two.
In a statement to E! News at the time, Katherine’s attorney Ryan G. Baker stated that “given her own age and the fact that the Minor Child is now 15 years old, Katherine feels that T.J. is able to assume all necessary responsibilities of the guardianship for the Minor Child,” referring to Blanket as the remaining “Minor Child.”
Many references were made in the controversial 2017 Lifetime film Searching for Neverland, which was based on a book written by two of Michael Jackson’s former bodyguards, to the youngster’s desire to be rid of the nickname “Blanket.”
According to a source who spoke to People in May, despite Paris’ more visible challenges, the youngster “had the most difficulties adjusting following Michael’s death,” acting “quite confused and really unhappy.” However, at that time, he had long since assimilated into regular school life, participating in sports and socializing with his peers.
However, a statement from Jackson’s estate made it clear that none of his family members, including any of his children, were involved in the film’s production in any way (Paris was reportedly turned down an invitation to visit the set), nor did they sanction any projects, including the Lifetime biopic, that sought to “exploit Michael’s legacy,” according to the statement.

Michael Jackson’s 19-Year-Old Son Blanket ‘Bigi’ Jackson Gives Rare Interview
Blanket “Bigi” Jackson has reached adulthood! A rare interview with Good Morning Britain on Monday revealed how the late Michael Jackson’s youngest child, Prince Michael Jackson, and his siblings are carrying on their father’s legacy, 12 years after the singer’s death.
“You may find many extremely great goods in this place. In this house and studio, I believe there is a great deal of historical significance ” I’m just walking around the room,’ Bigi, 19, said as he strolled around a room filled with things from his father’s life. “That’s what he was all about,” says the author.
In the words of his siblings Paris, 23, and Prince, 24, “it’s just kind of what each of us wants to do,” he continued. “We want to build things that people ideally love, but that also have the potential to help their lives.”
Mr. Bigi also spoke passionately on the need to combat climate change by noting, “I do believe that it is critical that we are all aware of it. I believe we have work to do, but our generation recognizes the importance of what we are doing.”
A few days before, Prince appeared on the same British morning show and spoke candidly about his relationship with his brothers, prompting mBigi to follow suit.
“When we were growing up, my father would tell us, ‘We may have nothing, but if you look around in this room, you’ll see your brother, your sister, and me, and that’s all you’ll ever have,'” says the author. Prince made the statement. “That has always stayed with me and my siblings, and we have a really tight relationship,” says the author.
My father used to tell me that because I was the oldest, I was responsible for making sure the group was taken care of, and that I was to be the leader and set a good example,” he stated. “However, following his passing and being forced into the real world,’ my siblings, to be honest, picked up the slack that I was unfortunate enough to have left behind.”
Having grown up, Prince stated that “it doesn’t really feel like there’s that hierarchy of ‘I’m the older brother'” any longer exists between them.
“Our family is made up of siblings, and we’re all kind of on the same level in that my sister has her strengths, and my brother has his abilities, and I have some areas where I’m not as strong as my sister. They are a good compliment to me in that regard, “he explained. Especially as we grow older and our own lives begin to flourish and grow, every moment I get to spend with my siblings — whether it’s a small family dinner or a family vacation — is a treasured memory for me.
