After the first episode, fans clamored for Julie and the Phantoms season two, finding the story of a rock band that had been killed off rediscovering the world through their music to be charming, poignant, and amusing.

But even though it became a number-one success for Descendants and High School Musical writer Kenny Ortega, it appears for the lads, the show was canceled before its time.

So what took place? This is what we do know.

Season one of Julie and The Phantoms, which debuted in September 2020, was well-liked by viewers of all ages.

Edge of Great from the program won Best Musical Moment at the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2021, defeating WandaVision’s “Agatha All Along” and “Brown Skin Girl” from Beyoncé’s Black Is King, among others. This shows that the show certainly had a big impact on its audience.

With Kenny Ortega making it clear in interviews that he wanted a second season, it was therefore nearly a guarantee that the show would be picked up.

Ortega declared, “I adore merely the foundation of it” (via PopSugar). Come on, a young girl awakening the three spirits who suddenly burst into her life, sharing her passion for music and forming a band. There was just a hint of Hannah Montana. It inspired me to do something because it had all the things that make me want to do something: heart, magic, surprise, action, and adventure.

CinemaBlend quoted producer Shawn Williamson as saying, “I think so, yeah [there are directions to take in season two]. Absolutely. They have so undoubtedly prepared them well for success in the upcoming season. Additionally, the showrunners Dan Cross and Dave Hoge were outstanding. And I’m certain that season two will be just as wonderful or even better.

But after that, nothing. Fans quickly began saturating Netflix’s social media with requests for news, and they wouldn’t stop. A year and a half passed by with practically no new information regarding the future.

Then, in December 2021, Netflix made the final decision, announcing the cancellation of the program.

“This week, we received the news that Netflix will not be renewing our season. Despite our sadness, we move forward with pride in our team’s accomplishments and the family we formed while developing Julie. We sincerely hope you will stick with us as we advance in our job and careers.”

Later, he added to People: “There were feelings of hurt, disappointment, and even pain. After that, I sort of said, “Look, whatever happens, if there isn’t some sort of afterlife for Julie, you’ll always be in my heart and in my thoughts, and I will continue to develop programs with you in mind,”

Sadly, as of April 2022, it’s still insufficient.

Julie and the Phantoms Season 2 Plot

The ghosts would have a lot going on if we were lucky enough to receive a second season, executive producers David Hoge and Dan Cross said in a conversation with TVLine prior to the cancellation. They have always desired for the world to hear their songs. They want to connect with their audience, as Luke always says. A top-charting album? The number-one song on the charts? Whatever is necessary to make their song memorable. However, as you could see towards the very end, there are still a lot of challenges standing in their way. And now it appears that the inner circle has an “obstacle.”

The actors each had their own particular expectations for how they thought events would turn out.

“We had a lot to learn about everything in season one. The chemistry is now in place! We’ve all learned a tonne, from music to filming techniques to visual effects! Additionally, Caleb Covington assuming Nick’s body for what we can only assume are nefarious motives was the major cliffhanger from season one. We will no longer be able to predict his plans.

The love triangle between Julie, Luke, and Nick would have also certainly received more attention, especially in light of the season one cliffhanger.

Reyes expressed excitement about the future of the relationship between Julie and Luke to E! in a conversation about it. “I’m curious to see where the relationship goes, especially [because] we didn’t just go straight away with the two of them getting together or anything like that, Reyes stated. It wasn’t the usual “Girl meets Guy, Guy and Girl Fall in Love” scenario. There was conflict. There was a difficulty.

“They can put aside everyone else’s opinions and just kind of care about each other for what their souls are and who they are and what they represent and project out into the world is fantastic. They know it’s not right and that it won’t work out. And I think it’s important to establish it so that younger people understand that there’s no need to always move quickly. Simply getting to know someone is preferable. Additionally, while it’s important to pay attention to what others have to say, you should follow your heart and your instincts if they are leading you in that direction.

But she said that going forward, they wouldn’t be kissing.

“No. I don’t really believe it “When PopBuzz questioned her about the idea, she responded. “I appreciate that about their partnership. It’s an intense bond. We ought to demonstrate that it’s not necessary to fall for the first attractive guy you come across. You have time to spare. We still don’t know how long they will remain on Earth or whether they will simply remain here.”

Ortega also said “We still have a long way to go before we really develop their chemistry and relationship; there is so much we can convey visually instead of physically. That is their beauty.”

Sorry guys, but the lack of renewal means we won’t ever get to see more of the plans for our eerie rock band.
