The popular fantasy series on Amazon is getting a second season.

The release date for The Wheel of Time season 2 has not yet been announced by Amazon, but we can make some informed assumptions. The second season of The Wheel of Time was once anticipated to premiere in late 2022, immediately after Amazon’s other fantasy program, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. That would have made for a great 1-2 combination.

When the series didn’t air, a late-late 2022 launch was then delayed. Thankfully, we now know that season 2 of The Wheel of Time will premiere in 2023. When Dragonmount was questioned regarding the rumors of early 2023.

Despite some glaring pace and writing flaws, The Wheel of Time season 1 was generally rather good. Despite having many complaints regarding the accuracy and other things, I generally liked the first season as a major fan of the novels.

In light of this, I have mixed feelings regarding The Wheel of Time show as it is at the moment. Here are some adjustments I’d like to see in season 2 since I want to see it succeed.

Better VFX: The first season of The Wheel of Time had erratic visual effects. They appeared fantastic at times and terribly sloppy and low-budget at other moments.

The COVID-19 pandemic undoubtedly complicated matters, but I’m hoping the production team will be able to improve for the upcoming season.

Better writing and structure: While I thought the show’s overall structure and content were fine, the writing was inconsistent. Inconsistencies with the books’ mythology and occasionally just bad writing made me wonder more than once. There was a lot of room for improvement in the pacing, and the program squandered its meagre time on unimportant details (like the Stepin arc). As a result, other than Moiraine, we didn’t have many opportunities to get to know the other characters. Season 2 has to be much more consistent in terms of quality, especially the conversation.

More realistic set and costume design: I enjoyed the first season’s costumes and sets, but almost everything seemed too staged. The settings “simply looked like sets instead of someplace you could go to,” according to someone I saw. The costumes were criticized for being overly clean on a regular basis during the first season, in my opinion. The Aes Sedai can employ One Power to keep their garments clean, therefore this is not an issue for them. The rest of the actors, though, appeared a little too polished. In contrast, the majority of the characters in Netflix’s The Witcher appeared downright filthy when they ought to have been.

Maintain a closer relationship with the source material: I’m not going to insist that the show adheres to the book exactly. An adaptation does not operate in that way. However, The Wheel of Time season 1 changed far too many things from the novels and ignored a lot of other canons, which even some fans who haven’t read the books thought was strange. Although the showrunners should have some creative freedom, an adaptation eventually stops being “based on” its source material and starts to become “inspired by” it.
