When Netflix’s courtroom drama series The Lincoln Lawyer, based on a series of novels by Michael Connelly, launched last May, people were enthralled. After all, who wouldn’t root for Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), a courtroom-savvy LA criminal defense lawyer who works out of the back seat of his Lincoln? The show quickly rose to the Top 10 on Netflix in 90 countries, and the arrival of a mysterious tattooed man in the final episode left fans wanting more.
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Renewal Status
Status of official renewal: Formally renewed on June 14th, 2022.
Netflix confirmed our return to sunny Los Angeles on June 14th. Netflix announced the renewal in a now-deleted Tweet, writing:
“LA’s best lawyer has returned. Season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer will premiere on Netflix.”
Season 2 was announced accompanying the revelation that Dailyn Rodriguez, best known for her work on Queen of the South, would join the show as co-showrunner alongside Ted Humphrey (who was the sole showrunner for season 1).
Season 2 will feature ten new episodes.
Mickey Haller will be played again by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. Neve Campbell (Maggie McPherson), Becki Newton (Lorna), Jazz Raycole (Izzy), and Angus Sampson (Cisco) will all reprise their roles. Campbell will return, although in a limited role, as mentioned below.

From May 8th and June 19th, the Lincoln Lawyer tallied almost 300 million hours.
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Release Date
With the series renewal, it was stated that the “Date shoot begins in Late 2022′′.
We can officially confirm that production on the series will begin on October 31st, 2022, with filming to resume in Los Angeles.
Filming will last over six months, with a projected completion date of March 23rd, 2023.
Season 2 has a significantly longer production schedule than Season 1, but this is most likely due to the fact that it falls on various holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas).
Season 2 began filming on November 1st, 2022, according to Michael Connelly on Instagram. He says in the post:
“From the set of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2: I’m thrilled to inform you we have started filming season 2. It feels great to be back on set. This year, we are adapting The Fifth Witness, and we have some incredible new cast, crew, and writing team members. It’s going to be fantastic! – MC”
The first episode of Season 2 will be directed by Rob Seidenglanz.
On December 16th, 2022, showrunner Ted Humphrey teased that they’d be “returning many familiar faces.” Likewise in late December 2022, Dailyn Rodriguez and Ted Humphrey had a Twitter conversation about how they had finished all of the scripts for season 2.
What does this signify in terms of a release date?
We don’t expect the show to return until at least Summer 2023, with a Fall 2023 release date more plausible, considering that post-production and localization can take months.
We learned in January 2023 that they were filming on location in Los Angeles, with Manuel Garcia-Rulfo seen riding in the classic convertible as he shoots sequences for the second season of the series.
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Cast
It comes as no surprise that star and fan favorite Manuel Garcia-Rulfo will reprise his role as Mickey in season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer. Neve Campbell (as Maggie McPherson, Mickey’s first ex-wife, mother of their shared daughter Hayley, and a prosecutor who occasionally finds herself professionally at odds with her former) and Becki Newton (as Lorna Crane, Mickey’s legal assistant/office manager and ex-wife number two) co-star with him.
Jazz Raycole will return as Mickey’s client-turned-driver Izzy Letts, while Angus Sampson, who plays Cisco, Mickey’s PI and Lorna’s fiancé, will undoubtedly have a lot of on-screen drama this season given the heavy hints near the end of season 1 that his past as a member of the Road Saints biker gang is returning to haunt him.
Netflix revealed that more season 1 actor will appear in the second season’s ten episodes, but we don’t know who.
With a new plot line comes a new cast of characters. Lana Parrilla from Once Once a Time and Yaya DaCosta from Chicago Med will join the cast of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, according to Netflix fan site Tudum last October. Lisa Trammell, a local chef, and restauranteur in conflict with a predatory real estate developer (spoiler: she’s Mickey’s new client), will be played by Parrilla. DaCosta plays a vicious prosecutor who promises to be a formidable legal adversary for Mickey.
According to Deadline, Matt Angel (NCIS, S.W.A.T., and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow) will play true crime podcaster, Henry Dahl. Mickey appears to be skeptical of Henry’s motivations for being interested in the case. Could Henry be a wolf disguised as a hipster?
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Plot
Just a quick overview of Season 1 before we get into what we might and might not see if the program returns for a second season.
We follow Micky Haller, who finds himself in over his head after acquiring Jerry Vincent’s practice and cases. Trevor Elliot was the most prominent case throughout the first season. While Elliot was later acquitted in court, he died after being shot. We still don’t know if Elliot committed the claimed offense against him in the first place.
Micky emerged from the other side (not without a few bruises and scrapes), fully signed off and ready to resume working his cases after a long sabbatical from the profession.
The season concludes with Micky being able to surf again, but the man with the tattoo who has been lurking in the background since season 1 watches from afar, and the series then fades to credits.
Cisco has its own issues. He walked away from the Saints, but Mickey is stuck with the bill. What will the outcome be? We’ll have to wait and see.
Season 1 of the Netflix program, as you may know, adapts the second novel in the series rather than repeating the first, as we saw in the Matthew McConaughey film. There were some changes, but we mostly followed the original tale.
Thanks to GoodReads, here’s a summary of what happened in that book:
“Mickey Haller has had a difficult time. He expands his practice into foreclosure defense, only to have one of his clients accused of murdering the banker she blames for foreclosing on her property.
Mickey mobilizes his squad to exonerate Lisa Trammel, despite the fact that the facts and his personal suspicions point to her guilt. Soon after learning that the victim had his own black market transactions, Haller is assaulted as well—and he’s positive he’s on the correct track.
Despite the risk and uncertainty, Haller delivers the strongest defense of his career in a trial where the last surprise comes after the decision.”
