Star Trek 4 was supposed to hit theatres this year, but sadly that is no longer the case.

The long-awaited film finally appeared to be on track in February 2022 when it was revealed that Matt Shakman would be directing and JJ Abrams would be returning to produce, with a December 2023 release date assured.

We began to worry when several cast members displayed similar shock at the news as we did, and we became really concerned when Shakman abruptly left the project in August 2022 to direct Fantastic Four for Marvel.

The movie was subsequently completely removed from the release schedule in September 2022 by Paramount without appointing a new director. Star Trek 4 hasn’t been completely shelved, as far as we know, but there hasn’t been any news since January 2023.

Star Trek 4 Release Date

As you can see from reading the above, Star Trek 4 now lacks a guaranteed release date after being postponed indefinitely from its original target date of December 22, 2023. There are no rumors about a potential return date on the schedule.

Director Matt Shakman left the project in June 2022, however, Paramount boss Brian Robbins did acknowledge that the fourth Star Trek was in development at the time. With JJ Abrams, “we’re deep into it, and it feels like we’re getting close to the starting line and thrilled about where we’re heading creatively,” he remarked.

Zachary Quinto, the show’s star, admitted to The Independent in November 2022: “At this point, I honestly have very little commitment to it.

“While all of us would like to return and create another film, I’ve learned to only become passionate about things I am certain are real. Furthermore, there is currently nothing about a fourth Star Trek film that feels authentic.

Star Trek 4 Cast

The reboot cast’s return was not entirely assured even when Star Trek 4 was published in December 2023.

However, referring to the cast of the reboot during his announcement in June 2022, Robbins did state that he understood the audience “wants that cast in this movie.”

So, if it ever happens, we’d be astonished if it had a completely new cast. Then, you can probably anticipate the comebacks of Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, and Zachary Quinto as Kirk, Uhura, and Bones, respectively (Scotty).

Urban seemed to be eager for a comeback, although he also admitted in March 2022 that, like Pine, he hadn’t yet read a script. “I would adore working with those men once more; they are the best time. Let’s see “He got excited.

According to Quinto’s statements, everything seems to be quite ambiguous, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have hope!

Originally, the fourth film was supposed to be a time-traveling adventure in which James T. Kirk, portrayed by Chris Pine, and his long-dead father, played by Chris Hemsworth, miraculously teamed up.

Hemsworth revealed in May 2019 the reasons behind his departure from the film, stating: “I didn’t think we had found a good cause to bring it up again just yet. I didn’t want my contribution to the conversation to fall flat.”

Hemsworth appears open to returning for Star Trek 4, however, it’s unclear if this new version of the film intends to get him back or if it’s taken a whole other route.

JD Payne and Patrick McKay, the directors of Rings of Power, offered further information about their original concept for the fourth film in October 2022. They were the same age due to a cosmic coincidence in the Star Trek universe, according to McKay.

Also unknown is if Pavel Chekov would be replaced in the new film following the terrible passing of Anton Yelchin in 2016. Saldaa noted in March 2022, “It’s bittersweet since we are coming together for a fourth time, yet one of us is no longer with us.
