On November 5, Narcos: Mexico season 3 was released on Netflix, and it has been revealed that the 10 brand-new episodes are the final ones to be produced.
The program is ending, as co-creator Carlo Bernard said to The Hollywood Reporter.
He said, “I saw this season as the beginning of the modern world that we live in. For me, it seemed right to bring the show to the point where, for better or worse, we now realize made sense to end it. The television program was able to pull back the curtain and reveal the origins and development of the subject.
“Not that other stories won’t be interesting in the future. However, I felt that thematically and narratively, ending at the point where we had given the world in which we currently live made sense. We never want to say the same thing twice.”
Of course, the original Narcos television series, which was set in Colombia and had three seasons from 2015 to 2017, is where the Narcos: Mexico story began. In place of a fourth season, a new original series called Narcos: Mexico, which focuses on the growth of Mexico’s illicit drug trade, was released in 2018.
The series, which was set in the 1980s and 1990s, focused on the early history of the drug war in Mexico. It followed DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Pea) as he looked into the Guadalajara Cartel, which was run by Miguel ngel Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna), as well as DEA agent Walt Breslin (Scoot McNairy).

Gallardo was imprisoned towards the end of season two, therefore the third and final season concentrated on the bosses who rose up to take his position.
There is always the chance that the creative team will start a new season of Narcos rather than continue the current story in Mexico because both Narcos and Narcos: Mexico aired for three seasons.
Bernard discussed the potential for more Narcos in a Collider interview. Since this is sort of the end of the ride for the time being, he remarked, “There aren’t any plans. “There’s nothing in the works, but since the drug trade isn’t going away, it’s clear that there may be future incarnations.
“This is it for now… We had the impression that we were telling a coherent story. so having season three take place in Mexico felt like a fitting spot to end it.
The Narcos team, which includes Bernard and executive producer Eric Newman, is currently working on a six-episode limited series about Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco, which will star Sofia Vergara from Modern Family.
The project has been in development by Vergara and producer Luis Balaguer for eight years. Vergara told The Hollywood Reporter, “Griselda Blanco was a larger-than-life character whose ruthless but clever tactics allowed her to rule a billion-dollar empire years before many of the most infamous male kingpins we know so much about.”
Griselda Blanco, also known as Black Widow and the Cocaine Grandmother, was a significant cocaine trafficker in the 1980s, but the original Narcos did not feature her despite her connections to the Medellin Cartel.
She has, however, already been portrayed on film, with Jennifer Lopez set to star in the upcoming biopic The Godmother and Catherine Zeta-Jones playing the part in 2017’s Cocaine Godmother.
According to the new series’ Netflix description: “The true story of Griselda Blanco, a cunning and ambitious businesswoman from Colombia who founded one of the most successful cartels in history, is told in the movie Griselda. As a devoted mother, Blanco’s deadly combination of charm and cunning cruelty enabled her to masterfully balance family and work, earning her the nickname “Black Widow.”
Filming for the series is anticipated to begin in 2022.
