Even with one crucial actor returning to his role as Superman, Justice League 2 has yet to be announced and appears likely to happen sometime soon. But more on that in a moment.

In August 2021, DC’s veteran producer Charles Roven expressed his desire to work on a future Justice League film. Any future sequel, he added, would still be “a couple of years away.”

After his version of Justice League premiered on HBO Max in March 2021, Zack Snyder was even less sure about making a sequel. Additionally, he stated that Warner Bros. has been “aggressively anti-Snyder,” making it appear unlikely that a sequel would be approved.

As promised to fans, Snyder’s version of Justice League concluded on a “huge cliffhanger,” which, according to the original studio plan, inevitably results in additional Justice League movies. But at this point, it all seems like wind-blown dust.

Of course, it doesn’t mean that Snyder’s followers aren’t itching for more. There may yet be hope thanks to James Gunn’s fresh plans for the DC Universe and The Flash’s planned multiverse addition.

But what can we anticipate from Justice League 2 if that occurs? The plot specifics and the likelihood of a sequel are summarised here.

Currently, it appears that the updated Justice League will appease Snyder fans but that it represents the team’s final iteration in his mind.

Despite his initial intention to make future films, Snyder stated to ComicBook Debate in January 2021 that he has “no plan” to continue this world because he “has a lot going on.” But, as he said, “I didn’t believe I’d be here, so who knows,”

According to Warner Bros., Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been called a “storytelling cul-de-sac” and won’t be continued, which is also how Snyder now views it.

Prior to the film’s release, Snyder said in an interview with The New York Times that it would be “the last movie I create for the DCU,” and that even if it ends on a cliffhanger, it wasn’t done on purpose.

You should never rule anything out, though, because nobody truly believed that Snyder’s final vision for Justice League would be revealed until May 2020. Snyder’s version of this universe might continue without having an impact on other ones, as was previously suggested in relation to the intentions to introduce the multiverse.

By all accounts, that would still be a number of years away, so if Snyder does return to DC, we suspect it could be for a different film rather than a direct sequel to Justice League.

Justice League 2 Spoilers

Look away now if you haven’t watched Zack Snyder’s Justice League because we’re about to reveal some big plot details.

The major confrontation between our heroes and Steppenwolf to prevent him from merging the three Mother Boxes is similar to the Justice League’s first appearance.

Steppenwolf is beheaded by Wonder Woman as he is sent back through the gateway to Apokolips after a short hiccup in which The Flash needs to slightly reset time.

The main distinction is that Darkseid—equivalent DC’s of Thanos—plays a larger part in this film and makes a promise to arrive on Earth in order to defeat the heroes and obtain the Anti-Life Equation.

When Bruce Wayne awakens from the vision, he speaks with the Martian Manhunter, who promises to aid in the impending conflict. We then get to witness more of Knightmare, the horrific post-apocalyptic future initially shown in Batman v Superman.

The Martian Manhunter was originally supposed to play this role, but Snyder was unable to use the scene that had previously been filmed with Wayne T. Carr as John Stewart. He might, however, make an appearance in a future sequel.

Snyder’s initial Justice League strategy would have been extremely reminiscent of the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame arc, in which our heroes were beaten and then used time travel to return for one grand finale.

But don’t just take our word for it; here is how Snyder outlined the strategy for The New York Times sequels. The destruction of Earth occurs after Superman falls victim to Anti-Life. Flash is then sent back in time to alter one aspect such that it does not occur. Then came the decisive fight, in which we triumphed, he stated. “In the movie, you’ll never see, when Darkseid invades Earth, all of Earth’s troops come together once more as they did before.

“This time, there would be aircraft carriers, Special Forces personnel, all of the world’s armies, Atlanteans emerging from the water, and Themyscirans leaving their island. That was our grand exit. However, there is a lengthy drum roll and guitar solo before that.”

It’s a lofty goal that we’re sure Snyder fans would like to see realized at some point, but as we’ve already said, it appears like for the time being, fans will just have to settle for Snyder’s descriptions of the sequels.

Instead of a direct sequel, a reboot, like James Gunn did with The Suicide Squad, looks to be the most likely choice for a Justice League 2 or another Justice League film.

However, Cavill has actually come back as Superman and Ben Affleck is no longer Batman (although he will appear in The Flash), making a soft reboot or simple recasting of Batman less plausible.

Despite the fact that they are usually the team’s primary members, Justice League 2 may theoretically go without them. Otherwise, DC would have to consider recasting some of its stars while keeping Gadot, Momoa, and the rest, which is a perplexing idea, to say the least.

A new Justice League sequel appears to be a long way off in either case.

We can never rule out another attempt at a team-up movie because Warner Bros has finally shed its reputation as a studio unable to make superhero movies work thanks to their recent box office successes.
