Wade Wilson, often known as Deadpool or the Merc with a Mouth, made his film début in the infamous X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009). Almost everyone agreed that Ryan Reynolds was the ideal choice for the role, but they really just wanted to see him put on that gorgeous red outfit and act out some of the fourth-wall-breaking humor for which he is so well-known in the comics. We eventually got that seven years later with the release of the first Deadpool movie in 2016, followed by Deadpool 2 in 2018.
Only Joker has a higher lifetime R-rated box office total than either of these movies (2019). Given their R rating, the Deadpool flicks are likely to have had foul-mouthed, obscene humor, which is entirely acceptable for a self-aware superhero spoof.
But soon after, in 2019, Disney, the parent company of Marvel, acquired 20th Century Fox and all of its assets, putting an end to the rivalry between it and 20th Century Fox (which held the rights to the X-Men characters). Due to the lack of hype around X-Men: Dark Pheonix (2019) and The New Mutants (2020), the studio’s X-Men franchise came to an unceremonious end.
While that may have disappointed some, Disney’s massive acquisition also means that characters from the X-Men series are now eligible to appear in the MCU. This has already happened with Patrick Stewart’s return as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Evan Peters’s appearance as Quicksilver in Wandavision (2021), even though it was sort of an inside joke (2022).
In the current Multiverse Saga taking place in the MCU, stars and characters from earlier continuity and other universes don’t come as much of a surprise. However, Ryan Reynolds dropped an utter bombshell statement that a certain clawed hero will be making a startling comeback when he shared an update for the much anticipated Deadpool 3 on his YouTube Channel. Read on to learn everything we currently know about Deadpool’s entry into the MCU (as well as the cranky companion he’s bringing with him).

Deadpool 3 Trailer
Not yet, as the threequel won’t start shooting until the next year, in 2023. Having said that, Ryan Reynolds did provide us with an update via his YouTube channel, which you can view here, as we previously said.
Beginning with Reynolds performing some routine everyday duties like working on the computer and exercising, the update shows him in various Deadpool outfits, some of which are eerily similar to the character’s most well-known alternate outfits, the black and grey X-Force suit from the comics.
Reynolds then claims that he doesn’t really have any ideas for the upcoming film… with the exception of one item, after pouring some of his signature Aviation gin into a Deadpool mug. As if nothing is happening, Hugh Jackman himself steps up behind Reynolds. After that, Reynolds queries, “Hey Hugh, you want to play Wolverine once more?” When Hugh affirms, Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” begins to play. With the phrase “Coming Hughn” and a billboard bearing the Deadpool emblem with a large Wolverine slash through it, the amazing tease comes to a conclusion.
In a follow-up video less than a day later, Reynolds and Jackman attempted to explain how Wolverine came back after dying in Logan, but was cut off by the iconic Wham! song “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.”
Deadpool 3 Release Date
Reynolds’ enormous statement gave us confirmation that Deadpool 3 will spit its way into theatres on September 6, 2024, just under two years from now. Sadly, that time has passed, and the film will now be released on November 8, 2024. A streaming release on Disney+ and/or Hulu is most likely to occur about a month and a half following the theatrical release of Deadpool 3 given the box-office success of the prior two films.
Deadpool 3 Cast
Ryan Reynolds was always going to return as Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and now that we know he has some serious company, it makes sense.
Hugh Jackman will play Wolverine in his first MCU appearance, as was already established. Although the specific canonical workings are still unknown, we anticipate there will be some multiversal antics.
Reynolds technically already appeared in an MCU advertisement alongside the character Korg from Thor: Ragnarok, and he also made an appearance in the Avengers Campus ride Avengers Assemble: Flight Force.
With the X-Force squad, introduced in Deadpool 2, we met a variety of new heroes as well. Although some didn’t live long enough, we might see characters like Cable (Josh Brolin) and Domino (Zazie Beetz) again.
After some deliberation, Beetz hinted about a comeback in August 2022: “I suppose I really can’t say anything, but I feel fortunate. We’ll just have to wait and see because I really can’t reveal or say anything.”

If we see the X-Force again, perhaps with Peter (Rob Delaney) along for the ride, Colossus (Stefan Kapii), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Yukio (Shioli Kutsuna), and Russell (Julian Dennison) will likely complete the crew.
Although it’s unlikely that characters like Zeitgeist (Bill Skarsgrd) and Shatterstar (Lewis Tan) will appear in Deadpool 3, superheroes frequently outlive their mortal enemies in comic books, so it’s never a guarantee.
Due to a tweet exchange between Reynolds and Leslie Uggams, who plays Blind Al’s roommate, we can pretty reasonably assume that Blind Al will be making a comeback.
Vanessa, Deadpool’s girlfriend, is one character who has already escaped death in the franchise (if Deadpool 2’s post-credits sequence is canon), and it’s safe to assume that she’ll return for the sequel as well, though Morena Baccarin hasn’t yet confirmed anything.
Fans had complained that the sequel “fridged” Vanessa because she didn’t get much screen time. She had previously justified this. I absolutely was unhappy that I didn’t have much to do since I really loved the character so much, she said, adding that she could see why people felt that way.
The entire arc of his character in the movie is set into motion by what happens to my character, but after viewing the movie and reading the script, it felt like such an emotionally pivotal role in the movie.
However, prior Easter eggs have suggested that Mr. Sinister would end up being the main antagonist in Deadpool 3, thus the Merc with a Mouth may find himself fighting to defend her in addition to his other duties.
If not, Deadpool 2’s chopped cameo from characters like Omega Red in the scene set in the Ice Box Prison may offer another indication of the franchise’s direction.
We won’t be too concerned if TJ Miller, who portrayed Weasel in the first two films, decides not to return because he’d “rather they didn’t” produce a third film.
Reynolds, a frequent user of social media, also fueled speculation that Miss Minutes, Loki’s AI for the Time Variance Authority, may make a cameo. Deadpool’s Twitter account tweeted at Miss Minutes, to which Reynolds responded, “Hello, Miss Minutes.”
Deadpool 3 Plot
“Looking to go in a whole different route” is how Reynolds described the threequel, and he added jokingly: “Often, they reboot or modify a character maybe like four movies too late.”
Despite the fact that the threequel’s initial director claimed it didn’t require an R certificate to be fantastic, the film will indeed be classified as R, so don’t worry about that. Deadpool has “established” itself as an R-rated franchise, Feige stated in February 2021.
Reese and Wernick assured that the threequel wouldn’t be “Disney-fied” after they joined the project.
“They will let Deadpool be himself, you know? It’s not as if they could point to a specific joke and say, “You know, that’s too far.” Although nothing but support has been provided up to this time, “confident Reese
It’s unknown how the MCU link of the film will affect the story’s continuity with the original two films, or if it’ll essentially be a soft reboot. Does this imply that Deadpool 3 will have a bigger emphasis on time travel?
When we last saw Negasonic Teenage Warhead, she was repairing Cable’s time machine so that Deadpool could make up for bad but hilarious professional decisions made by Ryan Reynolds in the past.
According to a Reese plot tease, the third Deadpool movie will explicitly confront the fact that he is now in a whole different reality than before rather than retconning his MCU position.
“For fish out of the water, it’s a fantastic chance. The protagonist of the film is a psychotic named Deadpool. It’s easy to plop a crazy into a highly rational world. It will be a lot of fun, “Reese took note.
Reynolds tweeted in January 2021 that the third film will be a Rashomon-style road trip with Deadpool and Wolverine before the Disney-Fox merger. This was before Jackman’s involvement was confirmed.
Will this now be the situation? In Rashomon, a number of characters related the tale of a samurai who was killed in a forest. Could the dead samurai in this scenario be Wolverine?
Feige has also established a rather high standard for the film by contrasting it with other MCU threequels. How can we raise it to the same level as Civil War, Infinity War, and Ragnarok, he asked.
Being in the universe of the Ryan Reynolds show is a lot of fun.
Deadpool 3 Trailer
There won’t be a trailer for the third movie for some time, we’re afraid, as filming hasn’t even started yet. Reynolds will undoubtedly have a hilarious social media post prepared for when it eventually begins filming, though.
Does Deadpool 3 Take place in the MCU?
The director of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, has acknowledged that Deadpool 3 will be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and that it is being considered as a Marvel Studios production. However, this does not imply that the entire movie will be set in the MCU. That seems to be the most likely outcome, but we must keep in mind that Spider-Man: No Way Home, the first installment of the current Multiverse Saga, already featured characters from both the Sam Raimi and Marc Webb Spider-Man movies. Characters from the MCU timeline and the 20th century could cross paths in Deadpool 3, but only time will tell as the plot’s specifics are currently unknown.
Will Deadpool 3 Be Rated R?
Both Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and former CEO of the Walt Disney Company Bob Iger have publicly said that the third Deadpool movie will maintain its R rating and remain faithful to the first two. This suggests that more intense violence and coarser language may be on the table. Unless the upcoming Blade (2023) movie starring Mahershala Ali is also going to be R-rated like the older Blade films, if these promises are kept, Deadpool 3 would be the first MCU movie to receive a 17 or older rating. The director of Deadpool 3 (more on him later) also revealed exclusively to Collider that the film will be primarily aimed towards adults, saying:
“Deadpool’ is now being written, revised, developed, and prepared every day. Having a good laugh every day is so much fun. It is so enjoyable to hear, write, and imagine scenes where people are simply speaking foul. Additionally, the violence is overt and brutal, and it is very much a “Deadpool” film. Logan is also included. Wolverine is also included in it. It’s too enjoyable. Even though I haven’t yet entered the firing area, I’m already having a great time. […]
Creating a “Deadpool” movie has to rank among my most enjoyable creative endeavours ever, and not just because it’s rated R. It’s because it’s so self-aware, and it makes writing in a way that is exclusive to that series very, very entertaining.
Are the Previous Deadpool and X-Men Films Available to Stream?
Yes, all of the X-Men films from the 20th Century and both Deadpool movies are streamable on Disney+. Early this year, Disney+ added Deadpool 1, Deadpool 2, and Logan (2017), making them some of the first R-rated movies to appear on the primarily family-friendly platform.
