Uncoupled Season 2 Canceled Or Renewed at Netflix
Uncoupled was discontinued by Netflix after only one season.
According to Deadline, Showtime has renewed Uncoupled for Season 2 and possibly beyond. Netflix dropped the comedic series starring Neil Patrick Harris last month, following the recent combination of Paramount+ and Showtime. The project, created by Emily in Paris creator Darren Star and Modern Family vet Jeffrey Richman, falls into the premium network’s current aim to highlight more series with “culturally varied viewpoints,” such as The L Word and The Chi.
Uncoupled follows Harris as Michael Lawson, a middle-aged New York City real estate agent. When Michael’s seventeen-year companion, Colin, ditches him, he must negotiate a dramatically different dating scene or remain unmarried for the rest of his life. Season 1 was filled with laughs as well as some serious moments, with themes of finding love and friendship running concurrently. Nevertheless, it was canceled in January by Netflix with MTV Studios looking for a new home for a series.

As a result, if you’re looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. Fans of the show will undoubtedly be relieved to learn that their favorite show will have more freedom on the premium network than on Netflix. It’ll join the leagues of films like The L Word, and Showtime limited series highlighting LGBTQ+ themes, Fellow Travelers, which stars Matt Bomer, Jonathan Bailey, Allison Williams, Jelani Alladin, and Noah J. Ricketts.
Much has changed at Showtime in recent weeks, with the announcement that the premium network will be linked with the streaming platform Paramount+. A new strategy was spelled out by new Showtime boss Chris McCarthy, which focuses on storylines with Complicated Characters (like Dexter and Yellowjackets), Strong Worlds (like Billions and Homeland) and Metro-Cultures where Uncoupled fits. Showtime has already ordered many spinoffs from the Dexter and Billions worlds in order to expand in the first two categories, while programs such as American Gigolo, Let The Right One In, and Three Women (now heading to STARZ) have been canceled.
The first season of Uncoupled casts, Harris as Michael Lawson, Tuc Watkins as Colin McKenna, Michael’s partner of 17 years, Tisha Campbell as Suzanne Prentiss, Michael’s business colleague, Marcia Gay Harden as Claire Lewis, Emerson Brooks as Billy Burns, Brooks Ashmanskas as Stanley James. André De Shields, Colin Hanlon, Jai Rodriguez, Stephanie Faracy, and others round out the cast.
