Career
The successful musical Godspell premiered at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto in 1972–1973 with an intended run of a few dozen performances for a subscription audience. The play ran for three years, from 1972 to 1973. Instead of using a traveling cast, the whole production was composed of local performers. Many actors, including Levy, Victor Garber, Andrea Martin, Gilda Radner, Dave Thomas, and Martin Short, as well as the show’s musical director, Paul Shaffer, got their start in the business thanks to the production’s success in Toronto.
Howard Shore provided the saxophone accompaniment for this show. Following an overwhelmingly positive reception from the audience, the show’s scheduled run at the Royal Alexandra Theatre came to an end, and the production was moved uptown to the Bayview Playhouse in Leaside. Despite the fact that the Bayview Playhouse show ran until August 1973, it set a then-record by performing 488 times.

Levy is a graduate of both the Second City in Toronto and the sketch comedy television series Second City Television, and he is known for playing outlandish supporting characters with nerdy tendencies. In SCTV, he is perhaps most known for his portrayal of the dimwitted Earl Camembert, who serves as a news anchor for the “SCTV News” and is a spoof of real-life Canadian newsman Earl Cameron.
The following celebrities were impersonated by Levy on SCTV: Perry Como, Ricardo Montalbán, Alex Trebek, Sean Connery, Howard Cosell, Menachem Begin, Bud Abbott, Milton Berle, John Charles Daly, Gene Shalit, Jud Hirsch, Jack Carter, Muammar al-Gaddafi, Tony Dow, James Caan, F. Lee Bailey, Ernest Borgnine, Dr. Morton Shulman.
The original Levy characterizations on SCTV include news reporter Earl Camembert, comedian Bobby Bittman, scandal sheet entrepreneur Dr. Raoul Withers, and other characters “Business” naif Brian Johns, 3-D horror director Woody Tobias Jr., cheerful Leutonian accordionist Stan Schmenge, lecherous dream interpreter Raoul Wilson, hammer-voiced sports broadcaster Lou Jaffe, diminutive union patriarch Sid Dithers (“San Franciscockie! “), and hammer-voiced sports broadcaster Lou Jaffe are all featured. “The cast includes: smarmy Just for Fun emcee Stan Kanter, exuberant used car salesman Al Peck, guileless security officer Gus Gustofferson, Phil the Garment King (also of Phil’s Nails), and the clumsy adolescent dance show host Rockin’ Mel Slirrup.
He has only appeared in two films as the “main character,” Armed and Dangerous (1986) and The Man (2005), but has played an important supporting role in a large number of others. He is a co-writer and frequent cast member of Christopher Guest’s mockumentary films, most notably A Mighty Wind, in which his sympathetic performance as emotionally unstable folk singer Mitch Cohen won critical acclaim; his accolades include a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor – Musical or Comedy and the prestigious New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actor. He was born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles.
During the 1980s and 1990s, he appeared in a number of comedic films, including Splash, National Lampoon’s Vacation, Club Paradise, Stay Tuned, Multiplicity, and Serendipity, among others. Levy is best known as the creator of Maniac Mansion, a television sitcom based on the LucasArts computer game of the same name, which aired on Fox in 2007. The character of Toby Ziegler on The West Wing, which was ultimately played by actor Richard Schiff, was also a strong consideration for him at the time.
CBC/Pop TV sitcom Schitt’s Creek was created by Levy and his son Dan Levy, who also served as executive producer. Johnny Rose, the patriarch of the Rose family, is played by his son, who also appears in the show. Twyla Sands, the waitress at the Schitt’s Creek cafe, is played by his daughter, Sarah Levy, in the film. Fred Levy, Eugene Levy’s brother, is also a producer on the series.

Eugene Levy wife
If you’ve been following Eugene Levy’s career from the beginning—we’re talking all the way back to the 1970s, when he landed his big break as a cast member on the iconic Canadian sketch shows Second City Television—then you’re probably aware that the comedic legend has had a “work wife” in the form of Catherine O’Hara for quite some time.
Not only did the two co-stars on SCTV, but they also appeared in numerous of Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries, including Best in Show (in which they actually played a married couple), A Mighty Wind, and Waiting for Guffman, where they shared top billing. For the past several years, they’ve been enjoying what may be their largest collaborative success, the popular Canadian-made sitcom and global Netflix phenomenon Schitt’s Creek, for which both of them received Emmy nominations last year for their roles as husband and wife Johnny and Moira Rose.
However, during Levy’s Emmy winning speech, it was brought to our attention that O’Hara is not his real wife. That distinction goes to Deborah Divine, a fellow Canadian whom Levy warmly acknowledged in his address for “all the love, support, and sage guidance she has given me over the years.”
As previously stated, the Levy-Divine union has definitely been kept under wraps; however, continue reading to learn more about their charming and long-lasting union!

Who is Eugene Levy Wife?
Deborah Divine was born in Canada in 1959, and she is a writer. She, like her husband, has committed her professional life to the entertainment industry, albeit in a more behind-the-scenes capacity as a producer and production manager. Her acting credits range from the long-running American soap operas Search for Tomorrow and Another World to the short-lived sketch shows The Higgins Boys and Gruber to the short-lived comedy show The Higgins Brothers.
As a creative consultant on Schitt’s Creek, which, as any fan of the show knows, was co-created by her husband Eugene and her son Dan Levy, she also helped to develop the show’s characters. Divine also worked as a writer on another Canadian-American sitcom, Maniac Mansion, which her husband produced (but did not star in), in the 1990s.
Divine also has a Twitter account (which she uses under the semi-secret handle “deb d”), where she occasionally tweets about the amusing quirks of married life, which is worth following.
How did Eugene Levy meet Deborah Divine?
The specifics of their first encounter have been kept a secret, but we do know that they began dating in 1973 and are still together today. Four years later, in June 1977, they exchanged vows in front of a crowd estimated to number 300 people. That means they have been married for a whopping 43 years and more!
How many kids does Eugene Levy have?
In addition to his Schitt’s Creek co-stars, he and Divine are the parents of two of them: son Dan Levy, who not only co-created the show with his father but also plays Eugene’s character’s son, David Rose, and daughter Sarah Levy, who played Café Tropical owner Twyla Sands, who has been referred to as “the unsung genius of Schitt’s Creek.”
Over the course of her parenting career, Divine has established herself as a strong and proud mama bear. According to a 2019 interview with PEOPLE, her husband revealed that the two of them used to run a tight ship at home when their children were still little. For him, the key was to understand that, should one of his teammates cross the line, “there was going to be some form of consequence.”
Dan’s acceptance of his sexuality was aided by Divine’s love for her family many years ago. Dan said on Watch What Happens Live last year that his mother was the first person to ask him whether he was gay, and he credited their “extremely tight” mother-son bond with assisting him in accepting himself as he is.
She’s also used her Twitter account to express her strong support for their children, such as when she called out the “bully punks” at her son’s summer camp.
