David Reed Bromstad is an American designer and television personality who was born on August 17, 1973. He was the winner of the first season of HGTV Design Star in 2006. Color Splash, Beach Flip, and My Lottery Dream Home are just a few of the HGTV show he’s hosted.

Early life and education

Bromstad was born in Cokato, Minnesota, as the youngest of four children to Diane Marlys Bromstad (Krueger) and Richard Harold David Bromstad. His mother has Swedish and German ancestors, while his father has Norwegian ancestors. Dean Richard Bromstad, Dynelle Renee Bromstad, and Dyonne Rachael Bromstad are his three elder siblings.

He has always been interested in art and design and decided to pursue a profession as a Disney animator while attending Wayzata High School. He went to the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida,[2], which is noted for producing Disney employees. He worked as a Disney illustrator after graduation.

Career

He formed his own company, Bromstad Studio, after being placed on leave as a Disney illustrator. Bromstad moved to Miami Beach on the advice of a friend and auditioned for HGTV’s Design Star, a reality show competition to find a host for a new show on the HGTV cable network.

Bromstad battled against nine other potential designers on Design Star, winning the grand prize of a car and the opportunity to host his own HGTV show.

Bromstad appeared as a guest judge on the opening episode of HGTV Design Star’s second season, as well as providing moral support to the finalists in “Challenge 7: Island Dreams.” From Season 6 to Season 7, he was a mentor and then a host.
